My wife wants a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for Christmas. Anyone know of any Texas breeders? We don't need papers or registration, although it seems like most of this breed are, she just wants the dog.

Google is showing me there are a lot of pet-scammer websites for this breed, so hopefully one of y'all knows someone who knows someone...

Thanks in advance!!

I have one now, but we started with two. There is a breeder here in Houston that we used. I think Meadowlake Cavaliers. You can google their website. Dorthy runs the shop there. Don't go cheap and get unregistered. They are not cheap either. They big issue with Cavs is they are notorious for heart issues. My first one was a super awesome dog, but he only made it about 8 years before his heart gave out. My other one is still around and he is cool, but not near as cool as the first. But he also likes my wife better.

Irish Setter is my bread of choice.

Great little family dogs. Super sweet. Many end up with heart disease (mitral valve degeneration) and some at a very young age. Heads up on that.

We have had a male for the last 10 years, great little dog!
Breeder was from San Antonio, had champion bloodline, but I honestly don't recall the names.

Pros: friendly to all, loves to play fetch, loves to sit in your lap, not a big barker, great on a leash, easy to train.

Cons: Chowhound, will eat anything which cause puking at least once a month.
Hip dysplasia started showing around 7 year old.
Ear infections which cause hearing loss when older.
Easy come, Easy go

We have 3 rescue Cavaliers and best dogs ever (for family cuddly dogs). Do not buy one from a breeder. My wife rescued dozens from breeders through the years. And if you can wait a few months, it only costs you like $100 or less through this organization. And in my opinion, rescue dogs are the best! I will give you my pure breed Yorkie that cost us $1500 for free. Shoot, I will pay you to take him.

What a great deal. Not only do they do nothing and die young, they're expensive too! Get in line folks.

My daughter told the same thing to my neighbors, their grandson is getting one. When vets tell you that, be ready to spend the dough later.

Our cavie breeder moved to Colorado. She used to be in College Station.

Eta we love out two cavies. Our oldest is a rescue and our youngest is from the breeder. We love the breed. Awesome little dogs

We had one - she made it to 14, from a breeder outside of KC. She didn't have the heart murmur or hip issues that many had. However, my wife is a vet and during her last 2 years of being with us, we were a top 10 client of our own clinic. We'll get another at some point, but be ready for some issues.

That said, she was a great dog, and the money was well worth it.

This is a little off topic but there might be a solution to the heart problem while keeping some of the great characteristics of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

We recently inherited a Cavapoo....it's half Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and half poodle. Not cheap by any means (I think the woman paid $1400 for something that's a mutt), and it's a very popular non-breed right now.

He's only a year old, so he still has a lot of puppy in him. However, he's got some great characteristics which leads me to believe he'll be a great dog. All in my opinion of course.

So all the other dog breeds who suffer the humiliation of being *****d out to a poodle, get to take the name "doodle." But you mean to tell me this poor dog gets to take the name "poo?"

Next person who tells me they have a labradoodle. Oh, you mean a labpoo?

I have one. Great dogs but agree about not going cheap. Mine is 8 and having heart issues.

Spend the money upfront for a dog breeder who has the paper to show no MVD in the genetics. You'll spend more upfront but believe me...it will be cheaper in the long run.
