So I am piecing together a thermal hog hunting rig and last on the list is a tripod/shooting sticks

This is a new style of hunting for me as I am getting into thermal for the first time.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I am going to be shooting with a 6.8 Spc AR15

A tripod with an upper cradle or clamp is a tremendous asset, for steady aiming. My son has a setup including the Reaper grip, rock solid, but kinda heavy.

I went the budget route with a solid but lighter tripod, fashioned my own cushioned cradle, a U-shaped mount that started life as a sheet metal "post mount"

Kopfjager Reaper. Most versatile design available.

The curved finger design of the grip will hold any style of rifle stock and can also grip a spotting scope or a pair of binos if you don't need it to hold a rifle.

Excellent set up.

The Deathgrips are very good for the money. My main complaints are no side-to-side tilting of the gun clamp and the aluminum style is heavy and sucks to carry if you plan on doing a lot of walking.

+1 for BOG DeathGrip. Yeah, it's probably heavier than premium ones, but I found I just slip it on top of my shoulder and carry it....not a big issue.

Yes it is a bit heavier than I'd like but that's a trade-off for the $125 price tag.

That's what I did.

Heavy Duty Camera Tripod I font on clearance when Gander Mountain was closing, camera mount plate, post mount, 1" thick HD foam, and duct tape. Finished off with the same 5 cans of krylon I use to color all my outdoors stuff. All in I was at about $50.

I think of mine as more of a portable rest though, not necessarily a tripod mount, but its stable enough, and the foam grips onto my rifles pretty good as well.

Definitely a good trade off! Usually I just leave my gun in the vice and throw it all over my shoulder if I might have to set up quick when walking.

Larue makes a picatinny clamp that has a manfrotto foot that works well

I use a Primos Trigger Stick monopod. Doubles as a walking stick which is super helpful when stalking at night.
