OP there is a wonderful book about growing up on the Chandler Ranch in 40s-50s written by Charlena Chandler. It is called On Independence Creek - The story of a Texas Ranch. You will really enjoy it as will anyone who likes West Texas history.

Thanks for this info, I just bought a copy on Amazon. I'm looking forward to reading it.

They were cleaning the pool when we got here. This shows the size of the pool.

Yes tree is out, was in the pool for year, it was a huge sucker, that was some flood, washed all debris out of the Independence! Independence was cool in another respect, there were (are) so many trees dropping leaves in it. The leaves would pile up in holes and rot, if you stepped in that hole, it would release a TON of hydrogen sulfide, H2S, and nearly knock you down!
