Wife and I are going to drive down to this area for a few days to ride around and eat at some different places. Any suggestions on things to do or places to eat. Probably stay 2 nights in this area. We plan to be outdoors a lot so it's OB related. Thanks.

Must eats :
Rockport :
495 Chesapeake eats
Latitude 28'02

Port A:
Venetian hotplate
Virginia's
Trout street

Hit up the beach , if you play golf play at palmilla, cruise around and have fun. You can rent kayaks and hit up some kayak trails around AP/Port A area like lighthouse lakes etc.

Thanks. Haven't been down to that area since the hurricane. We fish Port'O and Matagorda. Just want to see some different sites and not taking the boat.

Rockport beach is open, but it was a-holes to elbows last weekend. You have to park and walk in. I was entertaining kids or else we would not have gone. Moon Jellies a-plenty in the water.

Rockport:
Crab-N (I had heard they reopened & they are dang good)
Paradise Key
Port Aransas:
Good suggestions so far
I'll add La Playa (next door to the Venetian Hot Plate). Be warned they do not accept credit cards.

Any really good breakfast joints in the Rockport/Port A area?

We really like the crazy Cajun in port a. It's not as good as 20 yrs ago but still good. Ask for extra heat if you get the hungry Cajun. Nothing fancy about it but always packed. Same with the boiling pot in Rockport. I was never accused of being white trash.

Steer Burger in Rockport will be one of the best burgers you will ever eat.

Was just over there last weekend. Restaurants were packed but was able to get in to Beach Station & Street Grill. The thing to do there seems to be renting a golf cart. The beach wasn't too packed but the mosquitos lit us up.

Rockport Breakfast Places: Best is Family Kitchen on Bus 35 near Los Camales, there is the Bakery on 35 near corner of Pearl and 35, and of course Rockport Donuts near 35 and Magnolia. One of the weirdest things that happened to me the sever years ago since we moved from Midland was the complete lack of quality breakfast joints in Rockport. Figured with all the early morning fisher folks there would be a bunch of cool breakfast joints, I was unpleasantly surprised to find there really are none.

Rockport Places to Eat: there is one new place in Rockport, 'The Rack', never been, menu on line looks OK. Near corner of 188 and 35 to AP.

Eaten there a few times and take out as well. I give it a "meh". They used to have on their website that the restaurant was family friendly until 10:00. I get up too early to fish to see what goes on after 10:00 but sounds exciting!

Our favorite burgers are from Steer Burger mentioned above. The kids also like the ones from Poor Man's Country Club.

The Groove hasn't been mentioned but is very good. They try to source local ingredients where possible.

Some folks like Shempys. No booze...kind of a hole in the wall. Close to The Rack. In AP, not much to choose from . There is Mickeys Bar and Grill over by Hamptons Landing. The Bakery is fair for breakfast. Redfish Willies hasn't reopened yet.

As a seven year resident of Rockport I really have to say that we DO NOT have any just knock your socks off and can't live without it places to eat. One big reason is that with Harvey so much of our lower income housing was destroyed that there are not a lot of experienced folks to work. Almost every restaurant is crying for help, good help!

Wanting to go for a last minute trip to Port A for the weekend. Leave tomorrow afternoon and come back Sunday. Are there any decent hotels around $200 a night within walking distance to the beach that y'all would recommend?

Was in Port A in mid June and tried something new for us, the The Bluewater Cowboy. Yeah, that was some damn good sushi appetizers and food. If you are looking for something different, give it a try.

$200 a night? Seriously doubt it unless you get someone's cancellation and they dont want the place to sit empty.

I had to make a quick trip down early Wednesday morning.....meeting lasted to late to drive home. Stayed at the Hampton for $155. I have stayed there many times over the last several years....it's a nice place.

It is not walking distance to the beach as the OP wanted....

Best restaurants are Lisa Bella's....Roosevelt's....Venetian Hot Plate....Kody's to cook your catch...Seafood & Spaghetti Works(Jay's) has the best soup and salad bar and the most local followers..

Lelo's has the best drinks and a pretty good burger.

Irie's is the best place for breakfast stuff.....Whataburger is next I'd guess.

We are doing the same thing, staying at the Lighthouse in Rockport. Little over $200 for a bayside room, little under for a non bayside room.

We are heading home today. Drove over to Port A yesterday. It really sucks that you can't drive on the beach. Screw that. Not going to park and walk a long way packing a cooler and crap to the beach. We rode around a bit and headed back to Rockport. Ate at Moondogs last night. It was ok. We stayed at the Lighthouse the past 2 nights. They had an omelette bar this morning.
