Could not stand the not knowing.
Left Aggieland early this morning to check on things.
She is still there. Needs some love but she is floating and right side up. Many are not.

My coworker has a cabin down there. Did you take any photos?

I did. We got a late start and Baffin was really rough. We did not try to get across to the Cut but I just saw a video of the channel that goes into nine mile hole and most of the floaters are just gone. Ours is north of twin plans and had minimal damage.
My dear friend cabin is gone. Not a sign of it.

Laguna adventures has a bunch of pictures and videos on their Facebook page. If you don't know what you are looking at you will not miss all of the cabins that are just gone.
Wow what a shame.

Thanks for the link. Have a buddy with a cabin in the Land Cut. I'll forward the link to him. Time to rebuild.

I'm headed to twin palms this afternoon to check on my place and a few friend's places. I hear the floaters are scattered all over the bay.

FYI bird island entrance was locked up yesterday afternoon. Marker 37 ramp access road was under water.

I hope anyone that lost theirs finds it and gets it right again. I have always wanted to spend an evening or two down there in one, so I hope they don't all get washed off the map permanently. I would love to see some pics of what things look like down that way.

Anyone know if anything in POC or Seadrift sustained any major damage?

I was in POC this weekend and no major damage to report. Yes the bait shops had water in them, but that happens almost every time there's a hurricane, so that was expected. No houses, or RVs damaged that I saw ridding around. I did see the small pier between front beach and boggy was gone, but again with that high of water and wind, that was expected.

Thanks for the POC update. We keep a boat there but it's about 6 blocks inland from froggies, so I am assuming it is safe. May need to make a special checking on the boat trip though.

Curious about the cabins in the land cut. Recently went from corpus to padre. King ranch is Magnificat as we expect. Is there some type of ownership? Hope all you guys with one survived.

They're permitted through TX GLO
A lot of them have folks that's are partnered in a cabin like a time share. Building and Upkeep are on the permit holders but I guess technically it's state property ?

The floating cabins are registered and managed by parks And wildlife. The land cabins are managed by the land office.
Ours survived but needs some repair. We are one of the lucky ones. Many are just scattered. Clean up will be a chore. Each owner is responsible for removing all debris.

Good Luck. I see a lot of memories made in that country.

The land based cabin on the point with the twin docks coming out and grove of trees behind it is owned by a former customer of my Dads, I've stayed there a couple times.

Lost my rolled shingle roof. It was barely 5 years old. Floaters are either on the King ranch or GONE. My front yard is full of lumber and styrofoam. Lots of destruction down there.

That really sucks, especially for folks that very recently put work in. If yall have a cabin and need some help hauling some things away or to the cabin or need a hand, I've got a boat and can help if I have a free weekend.

No offense, but it sucks for the King Ranch having all that crap on their place.

Pretty sure most of that would've wound up on the Kenedy Ranch.

But all the same, sucks for everyone. Might be some big bonfires.

I was just watching the videos thinking of volunteering to go down with our boat and some of my local CCA guys and help haul debris back out.

Gotta be the first time I've heard of someone feeling bad for the King or Kenedy Ranch, but I do hope that it gets cleaned up soon. There will be a clean up weekend announced next week with barges and dumpsters. Looks like there's a pretty good OB presence on the coast!

Who is organizing the dumpsters and barges? Is that a TPWD thing or is it private groups such as CCA or SEA?

There should be a work exchange program. Go work for a weekend and get an invite for a fishing weekend.

Update- received the following e-mail from the GLO yesterday:

Greetings Cabin Permit Holders and Partners:

Hope this correspondence finds you safe and well during this time. We have several updates for you regarding the Cabin Program.

Hurricane Hanna

The School Land Board has approved the rebuilding of all cabin permits that were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Hanna. Any changes to the approved footprint and location will require written authorization. All rebuilding and repairs of your cabin must comply with any Special Conditions, as well as Exhibit C and D, of your existing contract. All debris and pilings not used during the rebuilding process must be removed.

Burning of debris is prohibited. All rebuilding and repair activities must be completed by July 25, 2021.

If you are proposing modifications to the existing structure, please use Exhibit C from your contract to indicate the modifications and send via email for review. Please note that these modifications will need prior written authorization before construction may begin.

Dumpsters for Debris Placement and Clean-Up

Two dumpsters will be placed at each of the following locations beginning on 09/10/2020 for approximately 30 days:
Land Cut 2nd Entrance to Nine Mile Hole (Referred to as Hap's Cut)
Baffin Bay Compuerta Pass
Night Hawk Area

These dumpsters will be exchanged every other week. If the dumpsters are full, please do not place material beside the dumpster. Other volunteer efforts are underway for the placement of more dumpsters in the area, including dumpsters at Bird Island Basin. We will notify you as we become aware of the additional dumpsters.

Through a volunteer effort, two dumpsters are also available at the Bird Island Basin parking lot.

Cabin Break-Ins

Unfortunately, it appears there is an increase in break-ins at the cabins So, as you travel back and forth, be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Game Wardens have stated that the best way to help this situation is to install game cameras with night vision. They suggest these cameras be placed up high and out of reach. A tall pier light would be a good place. If this is not possible, find a place where it will be out of sight. These cameras should be placed to capture photos of the individual(s), make and model of the boat and/or TX numbers. Stay safe and do not try and confront these individuals. Call your local or State law enforcement to report break-ins or suspicious activity and please let us know as well.

As always, please reach out to us at any time with questions or concerns at cabins@glo.texas.gov. You may also contact Rene Garcia at (361) 886-1606. Thanks and stay safe!
