The latest gun safe thread got me wondering. If you have 20 rifles and people are saying buy a safe that's rated to hold almost twice that... what are yall doing of you own 50+ rifles? 100+ firearms?

Do you own several safes? Do you have a gun room? I'm quickly heading in this direction so I'm curious. It's hard to imagine having 3 or 4 large safes inside a home

Safe room with a security door is about the best you can do.

I converted the wine cellar to a theater & game room, then just remodeled and reinforced the bathroom into an armory. Heres what it turned out like

The logic may not be so much as buy a bigger safe because you will acquire more guns in the future but rather safes rarely hold the number of rifles as advertised.

8' x 12' purpose made gun vault constructed when I built my house. Steel reinforced concrete and block wall, concrete roof and vault door. Posted a pic a few weeks ago but it's not very fancy.

I have a family member that has a lot more guns that me that keeps them in a couple of large gun safes. They're crammed in there but he doesn't shoot them anymore so it doesn't matter. He bought a lot of milsurp rifles in the 80's when they were cheap.

It seems if all you was single shots and lever actions they would fit as advertised.

You may be right. I just haven't seen a safe that can easily hold the number of rifles they claim. Firearms these days can have large scopes and they just don't fit in the slot next to another rifle. If I try, I end up scratching one.

I sell Fort Knox safes. A good one. And I think they are quite generous in stating what a safe holds.

OP, it really won't matter where they are once you get that divorce and she takes half of them.

At 100+ maybe you should seriously consider owning a gun store? (and use the store as a front for storing your guns lol)

Alternating muzzle up / muzzle down allows many more to fit in a given safe....

Unfortunately that would not be considered community property, even though it might have come to her while you were married. Ask me how I know....

Serious note, we have one of those flimsy, hollow doors for the bedroom where most of my stuff is at. To fix this, just installing a solid core door would be better or is there another solution to beef it up some? House is from '79 or so.

The problem I had was all the other optics, papers, ammo, knives, valuables that I also wanted in the safe.

I purchased a big knaack tool cage to store all my ammo, mags etc still had room for my bigger more expensive tools and freed up space in the safe to take the shelves out and store mostly guns.

I'm guessing you've never seen what happens when a determined individual places a boot on an exterior door with a proper deadbolt. It's not the strength of the door so much as it is the strength of the latch and the hinges and what they're anchored to.

A solid core door is not an upgrade. Buy a safe and anchor it to the foundation.

I plan on getting another safe rather than building a room with a vault door. I figure I'd rather they have to break into multiple safes to get at everything vs one door.

I got that last part covered about a half dozen times.

This gun safe **** has jumped the shark. When did gun owners get convinced that all their guns need to be in fireproof vaults at all times??

Think about why you want a safe and what you want it to do. I think a fire safe makes sense for heirlooms and very valuable guns. They do not make any sense for keeping guns away from kids- put a keyed lock on a closet, buy a locking cabinet, use the goofy free lock that came with your gun. Fire safes do not make sense for storing easily replaceable, inexpensive items. IE Iver Johnson shotguns.

Again, think realistically about what you need to safely secure your arms and figure out the best solution for you. For most of us it's not to have multiple 40 gun fire safes.

Il tell you what I do, cause I aint worried at all about somebody coming to get them. If somebody is trying to get them it is over for me anyways.

That being said, I bought a safe that was too big at the time. It is in my house. I then bought a smaller safe for a different part of my house. Then one more. And all of the overflow is leaning up against the corner of the shed without the bolts.

Bring it.
