What gate openers are y'all using? I'm over this mighty mule360. 18' Tube steel gate with cedar infill. Has cable support. Thinking about putting a wheel on it instead

Just did the research on this earlier in the year and decided on a Nice Apollo Titan 12L. Easy to set up and works great so far.

Everyone in my area has Apollo units. If you want to see a mighty mule drive around and look for the open gates. Those things die after a short period of time

We've had a Apollo for 14 yrs with no problems. Great gate opener. Just stay on top of maintenance like greasing it periodically

You get what you pay for with Mighty Mule, although I have 4 and all work without much issue, I also am anal retentive about gate alignment, plumb posts, and good batteries with solar panels.

Friend of mine owned a gate business for years and recommends these. Made in USA. He tells me the big box Hecho en China stuff has a three year life.

I have one of these. Works well. Make sure you get a marine grade battery for them when it's installed. Will save you a lot of headache. Learned the hard way on the lawn and garden battery that the cheap ass installer put in ours.

I will tell you that when ours stopped working the customer service at US Automatic was outstanding. I would buy another just based of that.

Good advice. I ran electrical to mine and put a trickle charger on the battery. Also a powered keypad was advised so you don't have batteries to ever change.

I concur. Had to replace the circuit board on mine after about 14 years. Customer service was able to diagnose the problem, and walked me through the installation. Expensive product, but probably worth it.

Fence contractor here. We install almost exclusively liftmaster. They work flawlessly, good customer service, and readily available parts and accessories.

A mighty mule is a joke around our office.

I'd recommend a slide gate vs a swing gate.

We have an Apollo gate on our ranch and it has worked flawlessly. The only maintenance it has needed so far has been changing out the car battery every few years since it's solar-powered.

I initially looked at the lower end gates but decided to approach the oil company about putting in an automatic gate since there's a well on the back of our place (we don't have the mineral rights, unfortunately). They wanted to put in a higher-end gate that they knew would work so that they didn't have any issues with it failing in the middle of the night. So I said go ahead.

We later added to a revised surface agreement that they would agree to install and maintain the automatic gate so that we could ensure it would be their project as long as the surface agreement is active.

This thread has been very informative. I appreciate the posts. I've got one question. Any of yall have experience with gates blown around by wind (have tried adjusting the force settings but gusty wind is still an issue)? Gate swings out and is subject to north and south winds head on. Id appreciate the feedback.

I have a lift master. No problems at all. 16 foot metal gate, custom made. Very big and very heavy.

FYI- had a microburst hit Sealy few years ago from the north, 80+ mph winds hit my north/ south facing heavy duty entry gate on an Apollo system. It did slightly bend the support arm 2x2 square tubing for the hydraulic arm. I reinforced with some thicker flatbar. Better than new. Regular cold fronts 30-40 mph has no affect on system.

We are about a year into our new Cellgate system (replaced the old board) and it's been way better than the older one

Ours is operating two early 2000's era Liftmaster operators (gates are iron about 8x10). They are programmed to Liftmaster remotes so if there is an issue with the Cellgate we can generally open/close remotely with the handheld garage openers (also programmed to the vehicle garage opener)
