The Coin Collector thread got thinking about the baseball cards I inherited from my dad. There are thousands upon thousands of them in boxes stored in my garage. I have no idea what to do with them. I have some in a safe in my house that my dad said were the really valuable ones.

Any ideas as to how I might unload these? I'm certain my daughter has no interest in inheriting them from me.

I had boxes of baseball cards from the 60s, 70s, and early 80s - along with a bunch of comics from the same. My mom tossed them all when I was a freshman at A&M.

What's the one-sentence explanation? Man when I was a kid I got two boxes of 97 fleer flair (I think) baseball cards for Christmas and I thought I was in heaven. I used to subscribe to Beckett magazine and I'd track my fortune each month.

Mass production.

The example given in the documentary is the Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr rookie card. Sheets of those were printed such that thousands upon thousands were in circulation. If everyone owns the card, it ain't valuable.

That is the most structurally unsound shelving unit I have seen in a while. Please put some cross bracing or something on it. I think the weight of all the cards is holding it together.

None of us collected Beanie Babies but it was the same kind of scheme. The only exception is baseball cards served a function in earlier times and kids were actually big fans of these players. The Beanie Baby thing was nuts.

The structure is a lot more robust than what it appears.

I'm really surprised no one commented on the Doss sticker.

In 2010, I sold all of my family beanie babies for $1 each ($3 dollars for the bears). I think I made about $100. I was ecstatic.

That being said, as far as collections goes. If any of y'all have old Magic the Gathering cards laying around. You could be sitting on a gold mine. Sets from 94-98 are worth a lot.
