I assume I'm not the only one who decided that a national lockdown would be a good time to get a puppy, and I figured a thread to share our new additions could be fun.

While we should have named her Rona, this is June Carter Mordred on the day I brought her home:

She's a Rhodesian Ridgeback who is now 5 months old. Already up to 46 pounds.

Here she is staring down a deer in the backyard, seconds before it charged her and me:

Despite that singular act of bravery she's basically scared of everything right now. We're working on it.

Let's see some of the other new pups you guys have.

We had to get rid of one of our RR because the males kept fighting each other. Love ridgebacks though. They keep the hogs away from our place.

On Monday we're shipping two dog crates from Atlanta to Lundazi to position them for the future transport of Gus and Woodrow to the states. Presbyterian World Mission just extended its international travel ban to 12/12/2020. Assuming that means no one is able to return to the field until after that, we're going to have to weigh our options. Fortunately we're able to do some of our work from here. But we do miss our hounds.

Holy crap that's a beautiful dog. My last dog (GSD mix) had blue eyes like that and women would fall over themselves to come up and pet him. It was a shame I was married

GSP? We almost got one of those, but the insane levels of energy didn't match our lifestyle as well as the RR.

Haha, the 2nd pic looked like a doberman, and the first like a dachshund. Will be impossible to confuse those two breeds in a few weeks.

A lot of people wouldn't recognize a doberman before their ears are cropped. As an adult they look ridiculous at times depending on how big their ears are.

Bender,
those are gorgeous dogs. Great Pyrannees and what is the other part of the mix? If you are ever seriously considering putting them up for adoption, I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding someone who would love to have them

Thank you.

Tone is hard online, but if you assume I'm being sarcastic (unless talking technical gun stuff), you'll probably be right.

These two are mine forever, no worries about needing to find a home for them.

You nailed it, both Pyr mixes. We aren't 100% positive on the mix with either of them, because they were both rescues.

I think the 90 lbs male is a golden/pyr mix.

And I'm pretty sure the 68 lbs female is an Aussie/Pyr mix.

I've been around some great dogs so far in life. Pyrs are....quirky, to put it lightly, but I'd be happy owning nothing but Pyrs and Pyr mixes again for the rest of my time on earth.

The female told us my wife was pregnant both times before we knew (she usually sleeps in a bed at the foot of ours, when my wife is pregnant she suddenly starts sleeping on the floor on her side of the bed and following her around).

They love my kid, unborn kid and wife, are super protective yet gentle, and the best alarm system I've ever had...(even when I don't want an active alarm system).

Couldn't be happier with the goofballs.

I bet those two don't shed. At all. Not one hair on the floor, in your tub, in the fridge, on the pantry shelves, in your vehicle, or anywhere else for that matter. Not one single hair.

I would love a Silver Lab but you are wasting the puppy months during lockdown... 3/4 the reason for owning one is the women.

Are they supposed to be so afraid of lions then? She just barks from halfway across the yard unless I approach with her.

Ha! My RR was fearless, at least when I was around. At night when I would take the trash out, if there were yotes
howling, he would go nuts and his ridge would stand straight up.

When the ex did the same when I was out of town, he stayed in his doghouse. Good dog.

I can assure you given the stories I've heard your RR would take on several lions and kill them all if the opportunity was there

My wife and I had to put our 2 year old pup down unexpectedly just as the corona shutdowns hit. Starting to look for our next addition now.
