Looking for RV Rental Company recommendations. Idea is to take a ~week long road trip near the end of the year. Starting in the Cypress/Tomball area.

CypressRV on Cypress North Houston near Eldridge. They have their own fleet and lease out people's private RVs for them.
Good Day.

RVShare and Outdoorsy are the two biggest sites

We rented a travel trailer through RVshare over spring break. We had a great experience. I'd recommend looking on there.

Thanks guys, sounds like there's a general consensus here for RVShare.

Coolerguy, I may reach out to you in time. Appreciate the offer.

Follow up question that I should have asked in the beginning, we're looking it two families, 4 adults and 4 children (2, 3, 5, and 8). One family will likely use the RV as their "hotel" and the other get an actual hotel room each night. Any recommendations on size to accommodate all in the circumstances?

Why get an RV if you are renting a hotel room each night?

Two families, one will use the RV one a hotel room.

For the road trip it seems like it would be a good way to accommodate all 8 of us with a bathroom. Not real worried about cost (I doubt this is the cheapest way to do it by any means) but thought it would be a fun way to maximize time on the road in relative comfort.

Am I missing something?

How far are you planning on going? I'm assuming you are planning on renting something that is driveable, and not a travel trailer. Is that correct? Is the idea so the kids can hangout around a table during the drive?

All 8 of you are riding in the motorhome? That would be fun and could work out well.

Both replies correct. All 8 of us together on the road, want the kids to be able to stretch out a little bit on the road. I think this is the only way this works for us.

Drive would probably be 3 days each way, stay at the final destination for a couple of days and drive back.

Maybe something like this? https://rvshare.com/rvs/details/1242121 or https://rvshare.com/rvs/details/1018135
The reason I asked about distance is that you could end up with a big bill for mileage. Make sure you check that part of the rates, since different owners have different policies.

Good advice, will do. Thanks for the link.

Look at mileage fees if you do this. Most RV rentals limit the miles to 200/day or less and then hit you with mileage fees over that. Don't know where you're going but flying in and renting an RV there may cost less than mileage fees.

Beware of what requires a Class A license.

Ah, my friends is a bumper pull. Sorry didn't realize you wanted a drive-able one.

People wandering around in a MH while driving isn't quite what you think just FYI. If I have to pee while my wife is driving or vice versa it's kind of a big deal. Making a sandwich or something? Forget it. At least that's our experience.

Keep your kids safely strapped in if at all possible.

Exactly!

That many people cooped up in a motor home for 3 travel days at a time? Assuming 4 adults, 4 kids. You will likely all hate each other before reaching your destination making for a really fun return trip.

Just my $.02

Most veteran RVers try to limit driving to about 6 hours a day. Moving around in a RV underway is like standing in moving bus.

My idea was not that the kids would be roaming around freely, that was a pretty logical assumption already made. However it would certainly provide more flexibility and relative comfort than renting a small van. Even if you have to pull over occasionally for pee breaks or to let the kids stretch their legs outside wherever we might decide.

I certainly appreciate the feedback.

Back before the Zombie Apocalypse I would have suggested your group fly to your destination and have an RV set up and waiting for you. This way you spend more time at your destination without the "thrill" of the road.

How old are the kids? That can make the "magic" of a road trip family time that much greater.

Another thing to think about is how many campgrounds and RV parks are closed or limited to year round residents. You may want to wait a year for this trip.
Daddy-O5

Trip is intended for the end of the year. Certainly some things to keep in mind between now and whenever we actually make firm plans.

A lot of campgrounds, particularly private ones like KOA or Jellystone, have cabins. If your friend was to rent one of those you'd be able to all be in one place rather than having to drive the RV to their hotel everytime you needed to meet up with them. They're essentially stranded if you're dropping them off at a hotel and then driving to a campground.
