Not really outdoors but figured this is the right crowd to ask. Wallet is falling apart, need a new one. Any local companies (Houston-ish) make a good leather wallet?

Not Houston, but the answer is Saddleback

Had the same issue a few months ago and stopped by the King Ranch store in College Station...figured they would have good quality (albeit over priced).

One of the OB guys makes wallets. I believe it is Snow Monkey Ambassador that does leather work.

Saddleback is good stuff. I had one of their big folds for several years. I transitioned over to a small wallet probably 5 years ago because sitting one the bifold was causing back issues (sucks getting old). I got this one and I currently have 3 business cards, hunting license, drivers license, insurance card, 5 credit/gift cards and a folded up $20. Can carry front pocket or back pocket. I love it.

Used to carry a Saddleback. Transitioned to a front-pocket kydex minimalist option, but still have the leather one. They are great, just a little too big for me these days. I tend to fill wallets out with junk, so the smaller option keep me in check.

Not in Houston, but Chance from Herd Leather in Tyler makes good quality stuff.

I gave up on back pocket wallets years ago and switched to back pocket wallets. The saddleback front pocket wallets is nice but I prefer my Ridge wallet most often.

Zephan Parker (Parker Custom Boots, Houston) has some exotic wallets. He keeps a handful in stock, and guarantees them for life.

Anyone have an issue with a wallet creating a crease in their credit cards? I have a Fossil from ~5-7 years ago that puts a nice (****ty) crease in all of my credit cards. I have to replace all of my cards about two or three times a year because they crack and break.

Anyone have any similar problems with the options provided in this thread?

That is one of the reasons I quit using my Saddleback wallet.

Saddleback in the front pocket for 6 years. No issues with broken cards.

I loved the look, feel and smell of my saddleback, but it broke every card I have. I use one of those flat metal things now.

I got a wallet off of Sierra - made by Simms out of recycled waders. It's pretty cool because if I fall in the water my money doesn't get wet.

Saddleback. I have a small bi-fold that can go in back or front pocket.

I've carried a cigarette case in my front by pocket for the last 15 years.

Works great and super durable.

My Saddleback did that when new. I started putting the cards in upside down to keep it from breaking off the stripe. Seems to have cut down on the issues. I still have to replace them every year or two

I carried saddleback for years, recently converted to a Ridge wallet. It's definitely different, but I adjusted quickly and can honestly say I don't miss sitting lopsided.

I was nervous about paring down to just a few cards, but realistically, everything I need is on my phone.

Now if your phone spontaneously melts down (like mine), then you will be temporarily without 7 insurance cards, receipts, and that Academy gift card that's been there since 3 Christmas's ago that you forgot you had.

I wonder if something like this would be easier on my credit cards. The vertical orientation of the cards may alleviate the pressure.

Anyone had experience with a wallet that holds cards in a vertical orientation?

I pocket carry a .380 in one pocket and keys in the other. Not sure I can carry a money clip.

Are you guys complaining of the saddleback wallets breaking your cards talking about back pocket wallets? Like where you're sitting in it all the time?

Can't go wrong with Saddleback if you prefer leather. Carried one for a long time.

Tried a Ridge for about six months. Switched to Dango with multi tool and carry in front pocket.

Older Saddleback wallets were designed so the credit card stripe was right above the edge of the leather. Over time the card would crack.

Saddleback realized this & changed the design of the credit card pockets. They even allowed you to mail in the old wallet & get a new version for free. I simply turned my cards upside down to solve the problem.

I have one from Double J Saddlery. I've had it probably 18 years and still working great. Something to look into.

I do leatherwork as a hobby - have made quite a number of wallets, if you're interested.

I had a back pocket saddleback for several years and then upgraded to a front wallet made by Doug Davis in Meridian Tx. The stitching and leather quality is better.

That's the same thing I carry. I've had three since 1999.
