Insuring guns under homeowners policy

I don't have an arsenal by any means but I do have a value higher than the standard 3k-5k policy limits, so I increased the value to 15k about 2 years ago with my current ins. co. Now they want all the serial numbers for all the items covered under this, is that standard now in todays insurance world? I have my list of manuf., Model #, and serial numbers to give to law enforcement if I'm robbed of any of my items. Before this I was insured by the a different company for 15 years and had about 10k in coverage and was never asked any information. Before anyone asks I dont have any sketchy gun purchases that would concern me if the S/N got ran thru a database, but I was wondering if it is normal now days, as I have my list and pics of my items insured. Maybe I'm paranoid that if restictions increase by the govt. down the road they will want everything I have on the ins. inventory list accounted for.

I have MetLife with additional coverage for my firearms. I had to provide them a list of make model and SN (on a couple I had to put "Cyrillic markings" lol). I don't particularly like it, but the way I see it you don't have much choice, they won't insure you without it. The only advice I can give you is update the list every year. It would suck to have something happen to your entire collection and they say "too bad these are the only ones on the list".

In my experience, some do require it, some don't.

I have a separate police for my firearms, it seems to work so far. I have not had a claim so I cant speak to that side but no sn needed.

If you are a NRA member, they have an opt-in policy, but it's hard to find. I used to be a member and didn't know about it until about 2 years before I stopped supporting them.

Yeah State Farm requires that as well. The good news is that I could assign a value to each one which I did, including scopes, scope mounts, other accessories, I assigned value fairly. no fluff, but it is good to know that if the house burns down or some jackwad steals them that I am at least covered financially. Like most, I have several guns with sentimental/family memories value, which of course no money can replace.

It did make me finally organize everything on to one spreadsheet which was nice.

That policy doesn't exist with the NRA anymore, there's no free additional coverage for just being a member.

OP, some companies require it, some don't. We are with Travelers right now and they don't require it. Main thing is you're at least asking the questions to make sure it's all covered, many find out they aren't fully covered the hard way...

My company does not require this information. Of course, the details would be required if a claim were made.

I thought all of you lost your guns in a tragic lake accident?

I had them write a separate policy. The claims specialist told me to keep a record of serial numbers and also pictures of each firearm with current Blue Book Value that I assigned. He said pictures of left side and right side with a zoom of serial numbers would be the best.

I carry a floater policy through USAA as well. Never made me give any info. Similar to above, keep records and photos. They just asked me the value of what I had.

I get my insurance for the firearms from Collectibles Insurance. I paid $190 for $23000 in insurance.

I use the Lokton Affinity plan that co-markets with the NRA. No lists, no serial numbers. Costs less than the USAA add-on policy.

Under no circumstances will I give that info. The federal government has a history of seizing private company records, and I have no doubt that the democrats would access this info in a heartbeat - for public health reasons of course.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

I have an items policy thru Statefarm. But yes, they do require serial numbers
