Jack Plate Issues

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Got a Bob's jack plate that is stuck in the up position. When I hit the rocker switch up or down, I get a clicking noise but no movement. I should add that there was a problem leading up to the loss of movement as the switch was intermittent at times and I had to hit it multiple attempts to get the movement to engage. Now, it's just dead. Also- it blows the 5 amp fuse every time.

I'm thinking this is a relay/solenoid issue. The pump motor has an "up" and a "down" solenoid- maybe the down one is out. I have power at the switch per a multimeter, but I haven't figured out how to multimeter the motor or solenoids.

Any advice is appreciated.

Try jumping from the battery directly to the pump motor to eliminate a relay problem. Since it's blowing the fuse, sounds like a motor problem to me, but only troubleshooting will isolate the problem.

There's some pretty good threads here on troubleshooting jack plate issues.

Sounds like a relay problem to me too. Did you find the relays in the circuit and reset them?

Also, anytime ours gets stuck, it is usually because our pump is really old, and when someone not used to it puts it all the way up, it will sometimes sieze up. We usually can get it to go back down with some messing around. Sometimes changing the angle of the trim to one extreme or the other, will make it move slightly, which will jar the mechanism some and make it work again.

We are dealing with a late 1990's motor and jackplate pump. We had some work done to reseal the cylinders not too long ago, but I am not sure how much longer we will get out of ours at this age.

If we could ever get all our kids out of college, we would likely upgrade our rig....but it is what it is, I guess.

Good luck with yours....

If you are hearing a click then sounds like the solenoids are working. It was posted that if possible by pass the solenoid and wire direct to motor which would maybe help eliminate the motor. Also perhaps the solenoid contacts are corroded. Good luck.

Ours quit working and the wires inside heat shrink tubing had pulled apart. Might want to check those connections.

We have a Baymaster at work and have had to replace the solenoid several times because it gets rusty. Finally bought several and keep them in a Ziploc.

I'd agree on the relay/solenoid issue... You can look up how to test relays...

Up/Down Relays can sometimes have funny issues.

We had a similar problem... would intermittently not go down. Then finally go stuck all the way up. Clicked when hitting the rocker but not blowing fuses. Ended up being the Up relay that went bad. Wasn't releasing fully so the down relay couldn't work.

If you have separate up and down relays, swap them. If it is the relay, jack plate should then lower and click when trying to rise.
