I have 2 vortex scopes that I really like, but I can't do Chinese anymore. I would prefer something made in the USA, but it's not neccessary. Just not made in China. Something that is good quality, but wont break the bank.

Recommendations?

It is a Houston company. Most of their optics are made in China. I think their higher end ones are made in Japan.

Primary Arms makes a great optic for the price. Their ACSS reticle is awesome. But they aren't made in the USA.

Which vortex scopes do you have? The PST 2 line is a damn good bang for your buck for lower-mid to mid range cost optics.

A crossfire II on a cheap beginner rifle for my son, and a strike eagle on a budget AR. Been great for the price.

Cool. I think you'd find the glass and light transmission markedly better on the PST2 line. If you're a vet or on Experticity.com you can get 40-50% off on some models.

I really like Vortex, and some of their stuff is made in Japan.

New 1-10 has been getting great reviews.

I do want something that I can crank down to 1 power for short range, preferably with a battery red reticle. I could also be convinced to go with a good red dot of some kind.

Before I decided to go with a NV scope I was eyeing the Leupold VR-X Patrol.

Seems to have good reviews and made in Oregon if I'm not mistaken.

I like that one. My Dad recommended Leopold. His dad had one that still works to this day.

Anyone have experience with those magnifiers that they are selling with it? Do they work well?

Good example on not going with something made in China. We all need to be doing this. There will be a pinch at first, but it can be done. I've been Wal-Mart free for almost a decade, it can be done if you stop and think about what you think you "need" and what you can adjust to.

I like them just fine, but you'll need to buy the premium versions to go from Chinese to Japanese glass.

I agree it hurts, but I'd rather pay more for someone to have a job here, than to pay less and get taxed more anyways for them to do nothing.
