You spent four years in College Station without having parties getting broken up, heard stories of things happening with CSPD and had friends have experiences with the local law enforcement? You don't have to be getting arrested every weekend to have an opinion based of living in a community for four years.
I had several close calls with CSPD related to alcohol and was never ticketed or arrested. When someone gets a ticket or arrested they're never happy about it so I take those stories with a grain of salt. Most of the time it was "CSPD are such *******s, they broke up our party and gave us MIP's"
"well were y'all drinking?"
"yeah, but they didn't have to give us tickets"

Like the police officer posting pointed out depending where you are at the police are focused on different things. Comparing HPD to CSPD isn't a fair comparison for many reasons.

I actually agree with you that they were pretty harsh on your charges. You bought beer underage. Eh, you got caught. Contributing to minors seams a bit much on someones first offense.

Did any of this happen during your 4 years at Texas A&M? You don't need to answer, pick any four year window and a quick google will give you your answer. I googled College Station intoxicating and started highlighting articles.

That town has a drinking problem and the surrounding agencies do their best to prevent stuff like this from happening. Even when it means shutting down house parties early in the night to prevent the inevitable drunken driving when the party shuts down and everyone has to drive home.

And for every house party/ring dunk, there's guaranteed to be a PHD candidate, grad student, family, student worker, within ear shot that is tired of the noise and likely called the police about it.

I bet the parents of the kids who died after the house party wished the kid who bought the alcohol didn't supply the alcohol in the first place.

It's not a dig at you but highlighting that there's a bigger problem than "the police were mean to me and wrote me a ticket and were jerks while doing it".

I wasn't suggesting CSPD were wrong to break up house parties. I was just responding to the poster asking how I could make a comment on this only being arrested once. We all had experiences with campus and surrounding PD's without being the target of any type of crime.

On a separate note, I'm not sure what the community is like now but about a dozen or so years ago the crime coming from Bryan was the real and scary problem. It always seemed like CSPD was paying more attention to underage drinking than risking getting into PR **** storm with heckling people that obviously had no business being around campus. On that note, I did feel bad about their situation. It was obvious, and I don't mean skin color. I mean a 20 year old Ford Explorer with tatted out guys riding four deep driving around the neighborhood behind sorority row were obviously up to no good but they couldn't focus on that type of stuff for reasons we all know.

I appreciate your response and quite frankly was expecting a bigger rebuttal. I missed an earlier post where you said you had bigger problems with the counter attorney's office in your past than with CSPD. While I recognize there are issues within all of the criminal justice system, cops are the "public face" of the system and catch most of the heat, whether deserved or not.

Take your initial post for instance. It was initially a few sentences saying cops can't be trusted followed up with CSPD is awful. Period, end of story. But dig a little deeper and the county attorney's office share most of the blame, CSPD has their hands full, and there's a city council who for a long time was in denial that they no longer presided over a "sleepy college town".

The above scenario happens countless times over where the media and/or folks on social media post a single snapshot of an event typically disparaging law enforcement as a whole and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. All it does is fuel a mistrust in law enforcement and diminishes the good work that the majority of cops accomplish.

And I'm saying when cops ask me lengthy personal questions, it's usually about mutual acquaintances. You need to accept that some do not share your dim view of law enforcement, and don't paint all cops with a broad brush just because they had one bad experience.

I've had an absolute sh it experience before with a cashier at Walmart. Do I hate all Walmart cashiers now? No. I figured she was just having a bad day, and gave her some grace.

I'm sure if you forgave the people involved in your situation, you'd feel a lot better, and stop carrying that around with you.

Sure you can. If I understand you correctly, you're saying the conversation would go like this:

Cop- Do you know why you were stopped?
Driver- why did you pull me over?

If the above is correct, you could say "No... why did you pull me over?"

Both provide the same outcome since you asking why you were stopped implies that you don't know why to begin with. And saying "no" before your question answers theirs, even if it's a silly question to begin with.

I think in any interaction between two people, replying to a question by ignoring the question and asking one of your own can be interpreted as argumentative, even if not intended.

I never said to say you didn't know why they pulled you over. I said to reply with "Why did you pull me over?"

If my explanation was off, then I don't understand your original question.
