I'm looking for a reputable gunsmith that can offer checkering on the front strap of a Colt 1911. Would prefer someone in Texas and, if possible, fairly local to San Antonio or Austin as I'd like to drop off instead of having to ship the pistol.

There was/is a really good one near BCS. I cant remember his name at the moment. SKelso may know if if he shows up. But I believe the man I am thinking of is simi-retired. Maybe give McBrides a call?

CT is thinking of Gene Schiller. He is retired Bryan PD and his daughter Connie shot for the USA team. I know him and his wife does LTC classes and he sales firearms but didn't know he done gunsmith work.

That is right. And now that I think a little more I remember him saying he was not taking outside work anymore. I worked with his SIL and saw some of his work but it has been a few years and I may be getting some of the work crossed up.

Those 1911 guys are getting hard to come by.

I've been eyeing the usual suspects for some custom upgrades so just might send it off the WC or Volkmann and forget about this specific pistol for many many months.

Not sure if he will build off a Colt, but Triangle Shooting Sports made a great custom gun for me.

Personally, I'd send it off to Colts custom shop, unless they are having issues. Better chance of improving value.

10 Ring Precision in SA does good work. I had Alex do some minor work on my 1911 and was very pleased.
