If the gun does not kick your ass, the bear will.


He mentioned that a friend of his had an American Derringer M-4 Alaskan Survival model chambered in .45-70 Gov't. that produces a level of felt recoil which takes one's breath away. I said I hadn't shot anything that small, but I did like shooting the 7.5" barrel Magnum Research .45-70 Gov't. BFR. It can be a handful, but it's certainly much more pleasant to work with than a derringer.

I've shot Garrett Hammerheads - 540 grains in my Marlin 1895 while in Africa and wouldn't even consider shooting them in a pistol.

Easily the worst day ever at the range trying to figure out how to site them in at 100 yards with open sights.

So, the recoil causes it to fly back, striking me in the head and knocking me unconscious, therefore I am out while the bear eats me. Better to die without knowing what the bear is doing. I am fairly recoil insensitive, however, I could not imagine EVER putting that in one hand and pulling the trigger, love my Marlin 45-70 but not as a short barrel pistol!

That thing only gets a single bullet loaded into it because if it ain't shooting itself out of your hands, it's getting throw TF away right after.
