Looking for a fishing charter in Maui during August. Does anyone have any recommendation/testimonials?

We used Hinatea in November and the guys were great. https://fishmaui.com/hinatea-sport-fishing

You have to know that Maui isn't known for it's fishing. That being said......we lucked out

as someone that is prone to chum the waters, sea around Maui is rough.

Make sure whoever you go with it actually fishing with everyone on board and not just trolling with 5-10ppl on board. Mine ended up sucking, we had 6 people so you had 10 mins every hour where you would grab a line if it bit. Boring as hell and a giant waste. I would have rather went shore fishing that do that again.

Good point. Ours was 6 people with 6 poles, trolling the entire time. In 5hrs we had 2 fish on the line. 1 mahi mahi (not landed) and the marlin.

If it wasn't for the marlin the trip wouldn't have been quite so fun.

Trolling is the typical fishing in Hawaii, if you don't specify otherwise. The captains have spots for Ono (wahoo), mahi mahi, and can probably find some ahi (Yellowfin tuna). If you want exciting billfish action, they also have spots for sailfish.

Otherwise, you'll be trolling for blue Marlin, striped Marlin, and short bill spearfish.

If you can, I'd suggest fishing out of Kona on the big island. Much calmer seas, and better overall fishing. If you do, I'd recommend the Top shape. Great boat, captain, and crew. Family has been exclusively fishing with them the last 6-7 years.

I spent 2 weeks on Maui in 2015. I did 2 offshore trips and 2 bottom fishing trips.

I don't remember the name of the first boat. Met them about 5:00 am. 6 hour boat ride. Not one bite.

The second was with Action Sport Fish. It started at 2:00 am and was an 8 hour plus charter. We were 3 hours out of the marina at sun up. Landed 7 mahi-mahi, a couple of small tuna and had one hit by a marlin that didn't hook up.

I've heard good things about Die Hard too, but he was having permitting issues when I was there.

The first bottom fishing trip was with the Marjorie Ann. I took my 10 year old son. We had a blast. The fish were smaller, but we caught fish at each stop.

This boat and the Pamela are managed by the Bryce brothers. We had so much fun we booked again. Ended up on the Pamela for the second trip.

All of these trips were shared, so we didn't catch all the fish pictured, but we got our share.

Edit to say this trip was in August.
