I need to give my wife another gift idea, and looking at thermal scanners to go along with my NV scope.

Last weekend I was hog hunting with my former Ol Lady and he had thermal and I had NV. He was able to pickup hot spots in the grass quickly and locate the hogs, but I was able to see more detail and record my shoots once I was able to locate them. I like the ability of scanning in thermal vs NV

I'm looking at the FLIR Scout TK vs Leupold LTO Tracker 2 HD.

Anyone have experience with either?

I dont own either nor do I have any time with a tracker HD but can offer an educated opinion based on specs.

Both use low resolution thermal imaging sensors. You'll pick up heat signatures but positive ID at distance will be challenging but you can use your NV scope for positive ID.

Of the two, I would go with the Leopuld Tracker 2 HD.

Is uses a 320 x 240 sensor vs 160x120 in the TK.
FOV is nearly the same between the two units.
The TK does have a higher resolution display but the sensor resolution is so low I doubt it will matter much.

Oh yeah, and this wouldnt be the OB if I didn't tell you to abandon your budget and get a Trijicon... ;D

Thanks Skelso! I was hoping you'd be a handful of guys to respond.

I have the Leupold LTO.

It works well. One thing I don't like is that you have to hold it away from your eye.

Unless the Tracker 2HD has changed much from their previous version, both the Flir and Leupold are good for 30-40 yards. If just trying to pick up heat, I don't see a problem.
