In the market for a safe. Needs to hold at a minimum 16 rifles/shotguns and room for pistols and ammunition. I see that academy has a deal on a 24 him safe, but concerned it's not big enough.

Buy the cheapest one you can find that will hold double the guns you want to put in it. I'd expect a few replies along the line of "dial lock only" "you get what you pay for" "wouldn't buy a safe for less than $x,xxx". That's all BS people trying to justify the money they spent and/or show off. A bargain safe is as much of a deterrent to 99% of home burgers as a high end one.

I saw some on sale Academy and also check out Tractor Supply.

Read up on the pros/cons of different brands. Length of fire rating etc. How much are the guns/jewlery you're wanting to lock up and keep safe? Don't buy a $199 safe to lock up $40,000 worth of valuables. If you want to buy a budget safe to lock up guns, then the Tractor Supply line isn't bad.

If you decided to buy a nicer safe, go to a local gun show and you might be able to get a better deal there. Offer to pay cash. Just make sure you bolt it down!

Check tractor supply. Saw a few 24 gun safes there between 299-499 on sale. Bought a Winchester 24 there a few years ago for about 350 and have been more than happy with it.

To meggys point - something is better than nothing. I just prefer to buy once cry once. Could care less how it looks or showing off, which is why I bought a Sturdy. Simple finish. No fancy graphics. But heavy duty and custom size.

But it's far from BS to want to spend money to protect belongings. Safes are for more than just guns. Jewelry, cash, heirlooms, documents, etc.

Maybe I've bought into this guys koolaid https://gunsafereviewsguy.com/ but most of these gun safes are RSC Level 1 which means like resisting 2 guys with hand tools for 5 minutes. RSC 2 is 2 guys 10 minutes with power tools. Even Sturdy basically says the don't meet RSC 2. So not sure 2 or 3 times the cost is really worth it, to me at least.

They obviously mate true safes, but getting one big enough for guns will be substantial $$$.

Get what you can afford. Anything is better than nothing. But....You might be able to make a case that 99% of thieves won't care about 500 dollar safe vs an 8,000 dollar safe but you sure as hell cant compare them for fire protection. One will withstand a house fire, the other won't. At all. If you want cheap, get whatever. If you want something on the other end of the quality range, Amsec.

Gotta go rifle rod system. No other way to store long guns, IMO.

I look at like Meggy does. I go out of my way to not advertise that I have guns or even hunt. I know if someone breaks in with the intention of going after the guns in my safe and they are halfway competent that they will get them. My main goal is keeping my kids and their friends from having access, fire protection, and deterring the random smash and grab burglar. My guns are currently just locked in a hallway closet but I am going to get a safe this Black Friday season, too.

I'm looking at the Cannon Executive Series 64 gun safe at Costco. I like the size and the 60 minute fire rating. I don't like the electronic keypad or the level of true security, but it seems to fit my needs and budget well. They have it at $699 right now. Apparently it can be found cheaper on sale at times, but unless I come across a better deal soon I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one.

I found a good deal on a used Field and Stream 40 gun at Cothron's in Austin. Has LEDs and an outlet in it. Fire rated for 75 minutes.

I chose steel thickness over fire rating. Stop the smash and grab and buy me time against someone who brought tools.

No ones stopping the guy who brought cutting equip.

No way 16 longs guns are fitting in a 24 gun safe unless they are crammed in and ZERO optics.

48 gun safe minimum.

We put a video camera from our monitored alarm right in the gun room with the safe.
