Left out of town Monday morning at 634 from Dallas stopped in KS at 2 pm and hunted until dark. Got into some deer and a few quail.

Made it to South Dakota and hunted some public and moved a few birds before the blizzard moved in.



Wednesday had the privilege of hunting private and one field and 1.5 hrs left us with a limit




Hunted a small walk in 4 miles south of brother in law's house and met a local that was out letting his dogs run so we hunted together. Great guy and 2 great GSP. Should have got a picture with them. It was 22F and windy. Made for a cold day and was in a hurry to get back and cook. I missed 1 bird and dropped another but couldn't find it.

Do the labs point or flush?

Mostly flush. The yellow one is a SD dog and somewhat points. Maggie the black lab pounces like a fox when she's birdy. She's gotten a lot better about not running and busting birds.

So jealous.

Today made a long run up to pheasant country.....well it was a bust. The weather made for bad planting in the area so finding good and cover together was near impossible. I guess a lot of people hunt the area too. Did push 20 or so hens and 2 roosters. 2 shots at one yeilded nothing.

1st stop of the day yeilded a dead head at a WPA called the state and gave them the coords.

Maggie did the work and found both of em oh and caught a hen on the ground.

Headed home from Sioux Falls. One last stop In KS to stretch the legs. There were geese trying to land in the corn field we ran around in. This the look on Mags face next to the sign.



Oops forgot to post Saturdays hunt

It was cold wet and miserable. But finally had the big blow up of birds. 6-8 hens and 3-4 roosters busted after pushing a narrowing slew. It was harder than picking greenheads in a group of mallards.

Shot a double but the second was a sailer and never found it.

Where in SD?

Sioux Falls well really Harrisburg but it's 8 minutes south of town.

I love hunting those cattail sloughs in ND/SD when it is snowy and nasty. The pheasants really love to ball up in those areas. Have had to literally kick them out.
