How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hey guys I have been hunting and shooting all my life, but want to get better. Looking for recommendations for firearms training. I live in College Station, but will travel. I am a hunter and don't compete, but would be open to it.
Looking for:

Defensive Pistol- has previously talked to 360 in Houston but never booked.

Carbine

Long Range Shooting

Thanks

Thanks. I will check out KR and Valor

For long range GA precision firearms recommended KM in Tennessee. Any experience there?

I took beginner level pistol and rifle at 360 several years ago and it was OK for me at the time.

I appreciate the rec.

But I'm honestly having trouble finding time just to get myself out to the range, so I'm not really in a position to teach right now.

What I will say is that in my limited free time this year, I finally managed to get out to KR Training as a student and can echo what others have said. They're very good instructors. Recommend them whole heartedly.

Kr training for handgun. I don't know if he does any rifle classes though.

I met with George with Integrity FTC this week for a little one on one training at CCC Range. I will most likely be using him locally and also going to these other programs out of town as well. I was vastly improved from 2 hours of working with him. Only $100 for 2 hours.

I also scheduled a training with KR in Bastop, but of course I have a meeting in Wyoming now. So hopefully I can reschedule.

How good do you want to get?

I think the most cost effective means is to get instruction until you are a safe USPSA shooter, once you make "C", get a local M/GM who trains, if you want to shoot at a higher level.

Figure about a year and 10-15K in instruction and ammo to make "A" in production

This is the route I am taking. Trying to get very proficient with my pistol and carbine. Hope to get good enough to compete.

Also my long range hunting rifle 500 to mile distances.

May sound crazy, but I started with mountain hunting and tried to figure out what Would benefit my my hunting the most. That was elite fitness. Since then (two years) I have completed 2 Ironman's and 6 half Ironman's and a few marathons. I can go for ever without stopping. Even doing an Ultraman in March

Now I am trying to hone my shooting skills.

I took this one last April from James Yeager at Tactical Response. He's out of Camden, TN., but he comes
to Bastrop twice a year as well as other states.

I started with Fighting Pistol.

OK, then I'd go ahead and start shooting IDPA. They are more geared for people who are new to competition and tend to have less challenging courses of fire.

Good instruction ahead of time, would certainly help, but just doing a competition, would be a big first step.

I hear a lot of people say stuff like this.

If you can safely draw from a holster, move with a firearm pointed in a safe direction, and listen to range commands, you're good enough to go shoot a competition. Right now.

And the reality is, until you actually shoot a competition, you're going to have no idea what to work on to be "good enough to compete". Can't be an NBA player if all you ever do is shoot 3s by yourself every night.

If you have any gear/competition specific questions, I'm happy to help there. And if you want to shoot a match with someone to help guide you through what to do, you're more than welcome (as is anyone else) to come shoot a match with me. I'll give you all the advice you can stand to watch me not follow myself when I shoot.

Thanks for the response. I am definitely a proponent of baptism by fire. I will try a competition next time one is near CS.

I guess I should have rephrased that to be competitive. Hell my first triathlon was an ironman. I sucked at it but learned a lot.
