Thinking about buying a wireless tailgate feeder.

Then figured I could probably rig up my own. Anyone ever convert a traditional 12v cigarette lighter/joystick type road feeder to wireless remote?

I'm planning on wiring 2-pole wire into a 7-way RV plug. Then adding an inline RF switch with a momentary function so it only runs with the remote button pressed.

Just trying to figure out what kind of switch to order. Amazon and eBay are full of options.

Why not just wire it like a hay buggie and put it on your head lights on a flat 4?

We use RF Solutions out of the UK (available here in the states from many vendors) for tons of applications in our research projects. One of their big product lines is RF triggers for sporting clays. I'd use one of their Hornets or maybe one of the smaller units for this application in a heartbeat if it fits in your price range.

If you go this route, use the headlight (or taillight circuit) to close a relay that draws from the battery. Feeder motors are cheaply made - I shudder to think what it could do to the electrical system of a vehicle. No way I'd power it from the light circuit. They draw A LOT of current when they start up. Best case scenario, it only blows a fuse.

We use these. We have 4 of them that we mounted the feeder to a stinger, just goes on the receiver hitch on a truck and plugs into the trailer light plug. Works excellent, only draws juice when you turn on the truck lights.

We buy the remote system off of Amazon, I just posted the direct sight so you can see and read about them.

I thought about the power draw but didn't worry after reading several posts on other forums of people using turn signal as control.

"The Remote" is exactly what I'm looking to do. Teaching a lesson in farmer engineering. Thinking I can build that switch ourselves save a buck or two and teach a great lesson.

I rigged up some remote control 12v green lights to my feeder for hog hunting. Hold the button down and the lights come on, release and the lights go off. Dont see why it wouldnt work for a feeder

This is the switch i got off Amazon

Quick question:

Does the RV style 7-way have an always powered terminal? I was planning on running a two pole adapter in to the ground and 12v aux but now I'm curious as to whether it always has power or if its only powered when the lights are on.

TIA

The question remains.
Got everything wired up Thank You guys.

As of now running lights will keep it powered but would like to figure it out.

I'm guessing there needs to be some resistance for modern trucks to supply power.

JFC, I bought one of those and can't get the remote to work. When it turns on the motor won't turn off. Any tips?

RF remote switch

This is the one I just used for a tailgate feeder, also bought a trailer brake battery box, hold 12 volt battery and makes it self contained

What wiring would be needed to go from RF switch/12v/motor?
