How long do you want to ignore this user?
Is this possible by walking? Would be my first experience on public land, have always hunted private.

How crowded would it be this weekend? I've also read you get in line and draw a spot at random to hunt

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thank you

We used to hunt there quite a bit growing up. Not sure if the process is still the same, but everyone used to lineup in their trucks outside the gate before it opened. I'd say be there at least an hour before shooting time. Some folks would camp out there the whole night. The spots are first come-first serve. You'll check-in and pick your spot off a map at the checkstation. They have roads you can drive your truck to get decently close to the hunting spots and then you can walk from there. There are some maps you can pull up online to get an idea of the setup. We've had some great hunts down there and shot a variety of different ducks. I still remember shooting my first Canvasback there. Good luck if ya'll decide to go.

All of this is spot on except when to get there. I would suggest getting there the night before if you want to pick a good pond. Last year I pulled up at about 9 or 10 PM and was number 11 in line. I would say by the time the biologist came around at 4 AM, there was maybe 20 trucks behind me. Good luck!
