Thanks to Highvelocity for the recommendation on the Sightmark photon RT as a cheaper option to thermal. Ive always had an aversion to spending money on tech stuff so the price of thermal didn't jive. Academy has these on sale right now for $350. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/sightmark-photon-rt-45-x-42s-digital-night-vision-riflescope#repChildCatid=5411264 Thermal really shines for locating pigs out in the open when walking or riding. This scope seems to be plenty for over a feeder, when you know where theyll be.

First video is no infrared with just the light from the solar feeder lights. Tried to spine him but obviously didn't work. I looked for a little bit but didn't have a good light.

Second video, I spotted him at the feeder from about 150 yards out and then eased up to about 40. Wasn't brave enough to go digging through the brush after that much pork in the dark. Going to head back and look for them in a little bit. Round was 7.62x39.

Pic of second boar.

Big'un went about 30 yards.

He's going to taste gooooood. Had to cut around that volleyball sized cyst to get the backstrap out. It was either that or shoot it point blank and upload to youtube as a pimple popper video.

Big pig. I do like my Photon that skelso fixed me up with. I just need to put it on something lighter than an AR10.

What are you using to capture the video from the scope?

The scope itself allows you to capture videos and pictures.

Nice pig. It's an even bigger hoot when you're under nods and smoke checking them at 20m with an AR and IR laser.

What is the magnification on these?

The way the item number reads, one would expect 4.5x, but the actual information says it is only 2x mag. Which one?

That's awesome. I have a Sightmark Photon XT and you have to have an external video recorder wired in to capture video.

I assume that involves an app?

They are blowing the RTs out due to the release of the Wraith earlier this year. That said, I have side by side video of the wraith and RT and I feel the RT is tuned better for night use. If you're in the market for digital night vision, I suggest jumping on this sale.

The drawback to the RT is the built in IR. Its weak and although it has some adjustment, it's not enough. Get an aftermarket IR torch with a 1watt 850nm led and you'll be amazed at how much more you get from the scope. You can pickup a cheap chicom clone like the Evola cheap on Amazon. They work well as a light source but fit and finish is lacking. Unscrew the bell, wrap the threads with teflon tape and reinstall the bell. That will help it hold adjustment.

BCStalk, I have it on a Sig 556R that I got from highvelocity. Relatively light gun but by the time you add that and even a light weight can it turns in to a load. I have an old school light weight Ruger 44 mag carbine that I might move it to or I might get a cheap 450 bushmaster upper to put on a SBR lower.

Schmellba, I assumed its 4.5. The adjustment does allow for you to double that but it seemed too zoomed for my liking. Maybe skelso can tell us more.

Mtn Guide, No app required. I didnt even read the manual. The first time I used video was when I pushed the button before the first vid. Got home, plugged it in to the computer and downloaded the video. Surprisingly simple.

skelso, I dont know much about NV but this illuminator seemed plenty strong. I knew where to look but I first spotted this boar at about 150 yards out with the illuminator on the lowest setting.

Schmelba, the RT comes in 4.5x and 6x. Both have zoom but its digital so the higher you go, the more pixelation.

CS78, the onboarding IR will get the job done but an external will blow it away. Assuming you shot that in the last few days, you had a lot of light from the moon. Go out on a moonless night and see the difference. Running the external also saves on batteries in the scope. Speaking of, get a set of Pulsar Double DNV batteries and forget buying AAs.

According to the OP, Academy has them for $350. I dont have any in stock, and doubt I'll get any more in. $350 is below my dealer cost so I recommend you grab one there.

Purchased one yesterday at Academy for $324 out the door.

Need to set it up and get an external torch. How do you mount the external torch?

So is There something out there to add to an existing scope for night vision... that is budget friendly? No idea if that is even a possibility, just asking. I like the price of this one, but just got the Rudolph from eyeguy so don't want another scope.

Nitesite (https://www.nitesite.com/) Is one option I have seen at some hunting shows. Looked through them at their booth but never had the opportunity to actually use them. I would think you would be a good option if you were just sitting in a stand or mounted somewhere. Otherwise it would be really impractical with all the additional weight it would add.

So what is the price range of the standard or cheapest model? I didn't see prices listed...

I have seen a few used ones sell around $400. If I remember correctly new ones start around $750 and go up from there.

So still not the cheapest but the convenience of being able to pull it off and on of your existing scope might be worth the additional price.

plus I believe Eyeguy posted another option not too long ago that he had just got into his shop but I do not remember what brand that was.

The pard units have been badass and very well received. not sure when I can get more in. Working on that right now. Also looking at getting the upgraded version with the laser range finder in....
