They recently made crossbows legal for archery so most people are just using crossbows.

Really says it all, doesn't it?
Yep. Says that when something is made legal, people get to use it hunting.

I think more people should be involved in hunting. Who's to say the Crossbow doesn't get someone to started in Archery that might not otherwise get involved?

That said, I would support giving the bowhunters a week or two head start before the crossbow hunting can begin.
Well, let's break that down more then.

I'd argue that we need to break the season up into compound versus traditional bows as well. Why not also include things like whether you are stalk hunting from the ground or using a tree stand, or whether you are using camo and scent block or not?

What about muzzle loading - should we have an early-early season for smoothbore traditional muzzles. Flintlocks? Then one for cap and ball, then one for rifled, then one for inline with scopes and pyrodex powder pellets?
Well, in a sophisticated state such as West Virginia, we actually DO have separate (read: special; longer) seasons for BOTH recurve/longbows and flintlock/cap & ball muzzleloaders.

And for the OP, since this is a complete hijack by now... get a TenPoint or a Horton. The Hortons are just TenPoint's tech from a couple years prior... made in the same factory and with the same lifetime warranty.

Poor use of .gif; -100 internet points have been charged to your account

You simply cannot admit that it is really nothing more than "I don't use this equipment, ergo it is wrong and nobody should in my opinion". Because that is all that it really is.

I already laid out the rationalization based on game taken, bag limits, seasons and opportunity for all sportsmen.
Sorry you can't read.

I can read just fine. I just don't agree with your thoughts, because it comes down to little more than the fact that hypocritical bow hunters think others are encroaching on "their" territory with equipment they view as cheating.

Two days to go. Just loaded the quiver with new Spynal Tapp bolts and trusty 170 grain FOC heads. 200 grain inserts. Total weight almost 600 grains in a 16" package. Adequate for cape buffalo so why not for a whitetail. Got tired of having to drag them the 30 yards they were running so just going to high shoulder shoot everything this year so they don't take a step. Pretty sure I can see AC twitching from here.

I have a cheap/old Barnett Jackal that im probably gonna shoot an old big 8 with this weekend. The elitist attitude towards crossbows in texas is dumb, any legal means shouldnt be looked down on in Texas, We have tons of deer and they are pretty dang easy to kill under a feeder regardless of what you are shooting.

I definitely understand the gripe that AggieChemist has about them being used in Archery season on public land though, there is an obvious unfair advantage to a crossbow during archery season.

There is an obvious unfair advantage to a compound bow over a traditional. There is an obvious unfair advantage with a modern traditional versus a hand made traditional bow. There is an obvious unfair advantage with a cap and ball over a flintlock. There is an obvious unfair advantage to an inline over a cap and ball. There is an obvious unfair advantage to a scoped optic versus open sights. There is an obvious unfair advantage to scent blockers and camo that breaks up your outline. There is an obvious unfair advantage to using game cameras to track and predict movement of animals into windows of opportunity. There is an obvious and unfair advantage to scouting or shooting over a feed plot or water source or anything else.

BTW - I don't hunt with a bow, crossbow or otherwise.

If I ever do go bowhunting, I'll use my traditional recurve with carbon arrows, good broadheads, etc.

I just can't stand the double standard from bowhunters over how a crossbow is "cheating" and the subsequent gripes about how many more people there will be in the woods during "their" season - and then watching most of them turn around on another thread and complain about how the numbers of hunters drops year to year and our way of life is in danger.
