Looking for another deer feeder. Will probably build a feeder pen to keep the cows out, but would still like to throw corn outside of the pen to be able to attract some hogs as well.

Easy fill or winch-up type? Advice welcome.

Not sure where they are all sold, but Gotcha feeders are nice and cheap. Just simple feeder with a built in ladder and platform to stand and fill on. I think they are $170/$180 with the ladders/platform. They are sold at the Belton and Temple Feed & Supply.

I found this on J Gottcha online:

Stand and Fill. Winch up feeders are too dangerous IMO, I have had three bust loose while full and being winched up and two fall when no one was around. There are over 30 corn feeders on my ranch, and I've replaced 14 winch ups with stand and fills thus far. Still have 7 more to go to be done with all of them. The only issue you will have with stand and fill feeders is waiting for deer/hogs/etc to clear the feeder before shooting, which is a non issue with winch ups.

Is a 16'x16' pen big enough? Would like to
a.) keep the cows out
b.) throw enough corn outside the pen to attract hogs
c.) have it large enough not to spook the deer.

16x16 is perfect for what you described. You will likely need 8 t post to keep cows from leaning over and bending cattle panels.

Have only had them in the field for a few weeks, but I purchased two stand and fills from a newer company called Outdoor Addiction. Made in Brazoria off a galvanized cube design similar to Lamco, All Seasons, etc. Not as polished at those brands, but also not as expensive. Feeder was $499 and includes a timer, 12v battery, solar panel, all internal wiring, 12v motor and galvanized plate below the spinner to varmint proof without the need for a cage. I have them placed in the middle of 16x16 pens and about 25% of the corn makes it outside the pen when it throws. You could also cheat it closer to the edge if you wanted more thrown outside the pen.

Buccees has their $399 ASF in stock right now. I recently got a couple TWS Old Timers on sale, but am still considering grabbing a buccees ASF to replace the oldest winch up.

Stand-n-fill and don't look back. Go with a 600lb model, too.
