How long do you want to ignore this user?
Does anyone recommend one online hunters safety course over another? My 17 yr old needs to take it this year before he's able to hunt, and I like to sign him up for the best course.

Here are the ones offered:

I recently bit the bullet and did my hunters education before I got caught by Ol' Green Pants. I did the Hunting Smart, I think mainly because it was the cheapest. It was informative and I thought covered the basics well.

The website was easy to navigate, the videos loaded, and it was easy to start and stop as time permitted. I think it took me around 5 hours total, but it can take longer if you watch all the supplemental videos.

Man I took one years ago when I moved back to Texas and my license still show up every year as needing to take it.

I should probably do something about that one day.

Send him to the in-person class if you're looking for the "best" option. If you just want to check the box, use the cheapest online one.

+1 for HuntingSmart for the same reasons TruckGuy posted.

Funny story. Buddy of mine who I don't get to see often or hunt with (ever) came out Saturday for a dove hunt. He asked me about his license so I looked at it and told him he didn't have hunter education. Yeah yeah have always meant to take that, he says.

Told him that we were likely to get checked that day, and since it was 3:30 and nothing was flying, I joked that he could probably take the class from his phone in the field. So he actually decides to take me up on this idea. Sits there for 45 minutes or an hour and took it on his phone. While this is happening, he misses a few shots at the birds of course bc his nose is buried in his phone, but more importantly, the GW shows up and starts making his way down the fence line stopping along the way checking guys. I point down the fence row.... How you doing on the final exam? I've got 5 questions left, he replies. I mention, well, you better hurry up and do a screen capture of your certificate, because the GW is about 2 minutes from you. His eyes get huge and he speeds through the last questions, screenshots his completion certificate right as the GW is pulling up to him. GW asks to see his gun and license. I notice you don't have hunter's ed, he says. Buddy says, yessir, I have my certificate right here on my phone. Shows him his screenshot and the GW says, thank you sir and moves on down the line. Thought it was pretty funny how the timing worked out.

We had a similar thing happen except the guy didn't have his hunter's ed because he thought veteran's didn't need it (only active duty are exempt), but the GW let him off without any issue. He took the course on the ride home.

I think my son did hunter-ed.com with out any issues. Being "old" i am exempt, but took it myself due to other states sometimes needing it and wanting to be a good example.

If your son has been around guns and hunting, it is fairly common sense.

I did mine on hunters-ed several years ago. It was easy and quick, but I have since lost my certificate and they don't have a record of it after this long. Make sure you save it somewhere you can keep up with.

Someone in another thread mentioned that if you take the hunters ed certificate with you when you get your license, they can add your number to your license record and it will show it printed on your license. I cannot verify or deny.

The NRA course is free so it would be the cheapest.

Yes, this is true. You can also add it to your online account and it will show up on your license.
