always talk about best bbq restaurant in Texas and who makes best meats, but what is the best side you've ever had?

for me it has to be either Truth or Killen's mac n cheese.

Oklahoma joes for fries, jack stacks beans and corn are the truth, mac and cheese is for kids (unpopular opinion, i know).

Yep, I'm with you. Truth sides are legit. But their Q is better.

I think Truth bbq is vastly overrated but their sides are probably the best I've ever had.

I ate at Cattleack a week ago and didn't look at a side.

I did have some beef rib, pork rib, burnt ends, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and turkey though.

Truth's sides are great. I love Cooper's potato salad.

First to keep on topic with the OP. For me it's a tie between truth and 1775's corn casserole.

I find this crazy, you must've gone on an off day or something because I've been at least 5 times and their brisket and ribs are some of the best I've ever had. Just as good as Franklin, snows, Louie Mueller, any of the other top reviewed places across the state.

This is the correct answer.

Could be - in fairness I've only been twice and both times to the Houston location. My opinion on the Q was shared by the three other guys I was with each time (not saying it isn't good but it certainly wasn't great) but that corn pudding. I could live on that stuff.

I know people love to hate Salt Lick, but I devour their German potato salad when we go.

The only legit sides for bbq are (in MY opinion) homemade pinto beans, homemade slaw, homemade potato salad, pickles and onions.
Sauce is optional. Mac n cheese is acceptable.

Again, my opinion. Everyone has their own. FIFY protected.

Agreed. The sides are the only reason to go to Salt Lick.

Same here. Haven't been to the Brenham location, but been to the Houston one at least 5 times since they opened. The ribs and sausage are great, while the brisket is good, but not great, especially at $23/lb.

Interesting. Well I can't vouch for the Houston location, all of my trips have been to Brenham. So there may be a difference in quality between the two. Had a buddy who went to the Houston joint and really liked it though.

I really don't focus much on sides at a bbq place, but there used to be several Tom's Ribs locations here in San Antonio. I do vividly remember the first time I had their baked sweet potato. It was huge, and OH SO GOOD! Their food dropped off in the last decade or so that they were open (I think Tom died and his wife ran the place as long as she could), but their baby back ribs were pretty heavenly when I first had them back in the late 80s.

The beans at LA 23 in louisianna are exceptional, best I've ever had. I was on my way back from fishing in Venice and stopped into this place, its just a shack on the side of the rd next to the train tracks. Very good stuff.
