Annually, I have the need to shred about an acre on family land, to be able to dove hunt. Each year, I end up looking around on craigslist or for a rental that I can get hold of, so that I can get a small amount of shredding done. Since it is such a small area, it doesn't make sense for most folks to work on it with me. I am hoping to run across an Aggie in the area that could help me. If they were close to Kimbro, it would make more sense logistically.

Sometimes I am lucky enough to make contact with a guy in Elgin, who will trailer his tractor to me, and do the shredding for a nominal fee. He is sometimes hard to get hold of, so I am looking for options. If you wanted to trade shredding for a day or two of dove hunting, that could probably be arranged. I cannot guarantee birds, although opening week is usually good.

You, or sons as young as 7 with a non-self propelled motor. Just threaten them with not being able to go to that birthday party later, even if it's their own.

I live in Paige and have a tractor with a 5' shredder and 5' finish mower, and also a 20Hp 42" riding mower that will take down knee high grass and weeds. I mow several acres with both.

I have to be really motivated to load it up and haul it and shred in almost 100F heat though.

Thanks for the replies fellas...I rented one of those last year from Home Depot. It worked well, but I had tons of ticks all over my when done. I think walking behind it, and having all that crap slapped all over me was rougher than I expected. I think I found a guy in Elgin to meet me out there tomorrow morning and do some shredding, so hopefully that will be fine.

If you would consider allowing me to run it, I could come get it from you and drop it back off, with a bottle of liquor or a few cases of beer, etc? I can pull a trailer with my 1/2 ton truck. Maybe this would be an option in the future?

I might. If it's only an acre and the grass and weeds don't include any brush, my lawn tractor mower is a lot easier to manage than the ford tractor with the shredder. I mow my old hay plot and a couple of fallow acres with it.

The tractor can handle heavier thicker weeds and brush but it is also a 3000lb Ford 1600 that is 40 years old and can be a little temperamental. It's a 3x3speed manual transmission, though the clutch is very forgiving. It's pribably overkill for an acre unless it is heavily overgrown.

When would you need something?

I had a guy out this morning to do what I needed this year. I was thinking about trying to line something up for next year, so I have options. It's actually about 4 acres worth. There is some small mesquite brush there, but not a lot of it. He was able to shred right over it. I wouldn't think your lawn mower would want that abuse. I am sure your tractor would handle it. Another Texag'r reached out to me that may have a buddy across the road, so I may be able to save you the trouble, but we'll see.

I think I am OK for this year. Now, if we could just get some birds to come through this evening. Not much standing crops near me, but it sounded like WW3 about 2 miles North of me, so they must have corn over there.
