Looking for a trophy, I know most ranches are going to offer similar range black bucks, so I'd like to find the most bang for my buck. Hill country is preferred due to proximity to home area (Luling).

I called my taxidermist 2 weeks ago to get a status update on one and he had no clue who I was........thats how far behind he was. With the new date he gave me it will be right around a year.

What are you classifying as a trophy to you? True upper 10% SCI blackbucks are 30" or better. I know a ranch that has some but they are not cheap. 20-24" BB are pretty common and a lot less money. Let me know kinda what length your goal is and I will try to help.

Also you want to hunt them at the end of winter...true mature BB turn blacker in cold weather and not so brilliant black in the summer months. We do all our large BB hunts in December and January. Just saying.

16"-18" straight tape you are looking at $2500 or so. 18"-20" you are looking at $3000. 20" or greater will usually be $3500-$4000.
