So I'm having an analysis paralysis moment and could use help from TexAgs to make my decisions for me.

I have an opportunity to buy any Yeti product for 50% off. A little background, I don't have any gear at this point so anything is possible. My wife and I are about to move into new house with a patio and my first plan of action is setting up a grill and having a welcome party.

My thoughts have been getting a Hopper 30, Tundra Haul, and maybe a Panga Waterproof Backpack (we like to go hiking a lot).

However, I still struggle with the price even at 50% off. Thoughts? What would you buy?

Buy the biggest most expensive SOB you can, take the stickers out, put them on your truck, then sell the big cooler at 7/8 of full retail and pocket the difference. if you need a cooler, buy one of the many clones or the Walmart Ozark trails yeti knockoff with the profit.

RTIC is running an end of summer sale right now. It looks like hard side coolers are 30% off and soft sides are 50% off.

I got a Kodi cooler with wheels from HEB last Christmas and so far I like it very much.

I'll give you a reply to your question rather than hate on a product.

I live in Cypress a few miles from the Rtic warehouse. Before they opened the fancy store, you could walk into the "warehouse" and pick up return/logo overruns/etc at really discounted prices. Inventory depended on what they offloaded from the truck. Alot better prices than the new storefront. So I've picked up a few of their products in addition to Yeti's that I've won at auctions/door prizes/etc...

I've owned several hard and soft coolers from Yeti and Rtic. And Coleman. On the hard coolers, I don't really see a difference between the Yeti and Rtic. The group that I run with have both Yeti and Rtic 45 and 65 models. They both do a good job of holding ice over the weekend. My only complaint is that either cooler 65 or larger will require two people to move when loaded. Most of the time we leave them in the back of the trucks or we all get together and unload when we arrive at the ranch/etc.

Having said that - the Yeti Haul looks good if you plan to move it around. I like the wheel options. Anything bigger than 45 will require two people to move when it's loaded.

On the soft coolers
I had one of the original Yeti Hoppers. It wasn't bad if you just put stuff in it and not take it out. The zipper would always drag on my forearm trying to pull a beer out.... Kept things cold - just not real convenient to "use".

I have the Yeti Flip 18 and 8.
Like both of those better than the Hopper. Does a good job for bringing a few cold drinks/snacks along a short trip. These get alot of use. Use in conjunction with the ice pack more often than ice.

Also have several of the Rtic soft coolers. Seem to to a good job also - The zippers and sewing are not the greatest. Had issues with zippers sticking/dragging and some seams coming unstitched. Leak more than the Yeti Flips I own. They do hold stuff and keep it cold. workmanship on the Rtic soft coolers is not a good as the Yeti IMO.

Also have the Rtic beach bag. That gets alot of use also. Handy to throw my bluetooth speaker, first aid kit, cigars and other stuff when I head to the ranch/coast. I would love to have one of the Yeti Camino Carryall Tote Bags instead. The Rtic beach bag is alot like their soft coolers - it's a little heavier than the Yeti Camino Carryall and the material is a little too stiff for the application IMO.

Half price Yeti stuff is not a bad deal. I'd take advantage of it. Try it out - if you don't like it I'm sure you can sell it for what you paid - or more.

If I had to make a yeti purchase I would go with the flip soft cooler. I have a RTIC soft cooler and I agree that the zipper just doesn't have the same quality. Plus the exterior color changed over time. Roto-molded hard coolers are all pretty much the same if you are just a weekend warrior. I use my yeti soft cooler all the time.

Not sure how you're getting 50% off, but I'd take advantage of it because it may not come around again. Yeti makes quality stuff. I only have rtic coolers but that's because I got them at about 50% off before they settled their yeti lawsuit. If i could have gotten 50% off yeti I would have bought yeti. As stated above they are really heavy. I think you mentioned you were looking at the one with wheels. They make a lubricant for the zippers that make them easier to open and close.

$3/bag for ~1.2 gallons of frozen water is cheap? Each bag of ice is approximately 10% of the cost of your cooler.
I personally think the convenience of not having to buy more than a couple bags of ice over a long weekend, instead of every day, is where the real "savings" may be for the more expensive coolers.

Awesome write-up, thanks for the details. The new M30 Hopper sounds like a good one because it doesn't have zippers, which a lot of people complain about.

I'm leaning towards the pulling hard ice chest as well.

I just bought a Hopper flip 18 and the sidekick dry bag. The dry bag is badass and I saw my buddy's in action on a whitewater fishing trip last week so I had to have one.

I considered the RTIC but read on amazon that they've had lots of problems with the zippers and RTIC is hassling people and not standing behind them. Ain't nobody got time for that.

If you end up going for a hard side be sure to check out dimensions on some of the less common sizes.

Seems like everyone has a Tundra 45 or 65, but the 75,105, and 110 have additional height that may be useful in some situations.

I have 4 Yeti's (soft bag 20, 65, 105 & Tank 85) and 1 RTIC soft bag (20). For backyard BBQ's I use the RTIC all the time now. When I BBQ my go to is the Tank 85 it allows my buddies who show up with beverages to just throw them in. When I do cookoff events I use my 105 to store all my meat and sauces. I hardly use the soft and 65 any more.

The Tank comes in two sizes I would definitely consider that one.

Buy a cheap cooler, and slap a ****i sticker on it! https://www.****icoolers.com/

Edit to say that the censors blocked the name. It's s-h-i-t-i coolers, without the dashes.
