In the market for gun safe still deciding between 48 and 72 gun safe. I have been looking at the Liberty Fat Boy Jr. I'm buying this more to have guns in safe place so kids can't have access. Not really worried about fire rating or potential of thieves prying open. Was hoping for some input on some other potential safes that are good quality and in same price range or cheaper than fat boy jr.

Buy on Black Friday. Tractor Suppy and many other stores have great sales.

Just remember you will get maybe 1/2 the published number of guns into the safe if they are long guns.

Same boat as you a while ago. Was not needing to pay for 2+hr ratings and 1/4-1/2" thick plate steel.

I was given advice about buying the Browning model (made by who knows) with the door gun rack on it for long guns. I have found that to be very useful in getting more guns into the safe.

Now if you have a bunch of pistols or small black rifles that may not be as big of deal.

Formula: your rifle+scope=2+ advertised "guns" held inside.

Where did you buy the browning safe and how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking. How big was the safe?

Where are you located? That's important because depending on where you buy, you'll also have to pay for delivery/shipping which adds up quick. Official budget also helps.

Also, not all companies do Black Friday sales. You can find the Cannon safes on sale then and honestly quite often through the year. The better the safe the less likely and less often it'll be on sale.

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone have any recommendations on gun safe dealers in the san antonio area?

The Liberty 80 gun safe at TSC is on sale right now - it's a discontinued item for them, so when they are gone, they are gone. Only catch is that they won't ship store to store, so you have to go pick it up. I was contemplating buying one because I need to get a bigger safe myself, but other expenses popped up. Sucks too, because with my 10% off I would have been able to walk out for under $900.

I may still do it, who knows. They have some good sales on some of the other ones (75 gun maybe?) as well.

General rule for safes - advertised capacity x .67 for guns with no scopes, capacity x .5 for guns with scopes

Academy is usually running a deal or two. It just depend on what you are looking for. They say 10% off to start and then you can go from there.

Just passed Moore security on 45 just south of rayford Rd. on my way home and they had a sign saying huge sale. I bought my safe from them a few years ago and it's great. They're friendly and deliver and set up too.

I got the Liberty Fatboy Jr. off Craigslist from guy who never used it for either $900 or $1000. I love it. Lot of people get rid of things for stupid cheap because it's big and they need to get rid of it because of a move so I'd check there.

I used Moore security. Got a Liberty safe on sale. Spoke directly with the owner and his son delivered it to my house. I'm extremely pleased with the service and would highly recommend them.

Thanks I'll give Moore security a look. I live in Fulshear. I found Cannon super wide 80 guns located in Columbus.

I am also in the market. I started at Liberty, but I gravitated to Fort Knox. Check them out. I like the large gun capacity layout a bit better. It's a lot heavier though. You should probably bolt them down, but I think I would rather not, install a recorded camera system for the sheer entertainment of watching someone attempt to get into it...because thats the only way anything will be leaving either brand of safe...

I actually am more interested in fire protection, and based on what I saw from other 'good' brands of safes, Liberty and Fort Knox are superior.

I'm starting to feel the need for a good safe also. The easiest place for me to put it, would be in the garage, but I am not sure how I will be able to make that work. That's why I haven't gotten one yet. I know I need one. We had a horrible experience with the local Liberty safe folks over in Pflugerville, so I am not sure I want to use them to procure one. I have heard their safes are really high quality, so the quality of the product doesn't seem to be an issue. My problem was on the customer service side and that left a very bad taste in my mouth. So I will probably watch for a deal on one at Tractor Supply.

If you two were in a boat, you wouldn't need a gun safe....gnometalmbout?

Check out Sturdy Safes. Excellent fire rating. Couldn't be happier with mine. Delivered to my driveway and I hired a moving company to move it into final position in the house.

Not 100% sure on model and looks like they changed their website a bit. Bought mine in 2011. Closest I can tell is model 4227-6. I did get the fire insulation. I have a traditional lock, not electronic. Terrific product.

Bolt whatever you buy, down.

Get a good fire rating safe.

A good mechanical lock, with brass innards will last a lifetime, and with practice, does not take THAT long to enter.

Agree with the fire rating and the mechanical lock. But how do you bolt down on a post-tension slab?

In a similar boat.

Just moved to an apartment and now need a safe. Only spot is a coat closet.

Only have 2 Ar15 and 1 handgun. No real plans to add to the collection anytime soon.

Just need something basic and no frills.

You need to talk to jtp. He is going through hell right now with his safe. Ask for advice.

With a hammer drill, lags, and concrete anchors.

Heck you might be able to get a steal on a $4000 safe. I'd ask for the name of his movers too. Don't waste your money on the extra insurance though.
