Re-sliming ATV/UTV tires

How often do you guys re-slime your UTV tires? I've got some slime in mine that is 2-3 yrs old and was thinking of re-sliming. Haven't had a huge problem with flats but we also run in mesquite and pear. Have a good set of all terrain tires. Wanted to try that ultraseal bulletproof. Do you just de-air and add new slime on top of the old, or do you need to take the tires off and clean out the old stuff? That sounds like a bigger project.

I don't personally think you would need to re-slime them. But if you want to I think it's cheap enough so no big deal. I'd just add it on top of what's in there. I'm replacing my UTV tires every 3 years or so from tread wear so I wouldn't put the effort in to taking the tires off.

I don't think additional Slime is needed, due to time. We seem to see no additional leaks (no more than normal) over the years. On occasion a tire may go low, but often due to puncture location with the tire at rest.
Add air, problem gone.

I wouldn't add any until you have a leak. I think all of mine have two doses of Slime and it works just fine on top of the old stuff.

Having personally cleaned out the slime in at least 40-50 atv tires to fix flats in college, I would highly recommend not cleaning it out. It's messy and unnecessary for your purpose.

If you decide you must, pay someone to break down the tire and do it for you. It's not a fun process to wash out the slime, drain out the water, and then clean off the residual slime in the tire (not necessary for this but for applying a plug/patch).

I add more slime whenever the tire starts going flat faster than I would like. If I am using the vehicle on a regular basis it usually holds air better than when I park it, especially if one of the larger holes is up high.

I think one of DrBoogs concerns is that he has Slime in the tire, and now wants to change brands to Ultraseal Bulletproof. I just did this on one front tractor tire about a month ago. Once that tire started going flat too often..... where I could visibly see a loss within a week.... I knew that my old Slime was getting pretty thin inside that tire. So that is when I pumped in the new Ultraseal Bulletproof. I doubt there is any link or knowledge to read if the Slime and Ultraseall are compatible. They are both neon green though!

So far my Ultrasealed tire has shown no air loss but it has only been a month and I have been using the tractor pretty often.

As soon as the other front tire starts showing loss, I am going to Ultraseal it too, unless I get new knowledge of uncompatability with Slime before that.

Thanks for the post. We are in the final stages of a tractor purchase. Will have a few implements but the one I'm most excited about is the 110 gal viton seal PTO driven sprayer. Can't wait to send some sendero down range and post some mesquite threads next year.

I just took the original tires off of a 2002 Rhino that were slime'd when we got it new. The slime was surprisingly still liquid in there!

Slime will eventually rust out your rim and settles to the bottom. There's other products out there that are much better. LiquiTube being one of them. I used to be a rep for them at my last job and it really was great stuff.

That's what it's called...LiquiTube. If you're going to get some, get the LiquiTube Premium. There's another company that bought name rights and created a spin off that's not as good. And I've got nothing to do with this company anymore, but I can say the stuff really does work. There's a bunch of YouTube videos on it you can check out.

My sprayer came with very minimal instructions. Just a heads up if you haven't heard of this...... Your PTO pump needs to be anchored so it is not allowed to spin. Most pumps come with a threaded hole in the casting, and usually there is a bolt there for the anchor chain. Many of them also come with a little piece of chain already attached there.

You just need to attach the other end of the chain somewhere to your tractor to keep the pump from spinning when you turn it on.

Any of you tried Kevlar liners or the TireGard liners? Ordered one TireGard Monday for front tractor tire...I put Kevlar liners in my fat tire hunting e-bike couple years and have been really happy with them so far. Hope TireGard preforms similarly.

That product looks excellent. I got lost going down the rabbit hole a bit though trying to figure out if their liquid ballast is a stand alone ballast and sealant or if you have to combine the ballast w the liquid tube premium. Reason I ask is that I need ballast for tractor tires but water/antifreeze don't do squat for mesquite punctures. You sound like you were with the company, any advice?

Other option would be liquid tube in the tires and wheel weights (no liquid ballast).

Depends on the size of tire, but probably 3-4 gallons. The stuff is pricey, but worth it.

You would need to combine with a liquid ballast. They have a specific product for that. I would just call their customer service.

Why not use foam filled tractor tires?

Great question. Looked at them and even rode some on a test drive in tough conditions. We run in some pretty rough country. Serious rock, stumps, holes, mesquite, etc. Foam filled will rattle your teeth out in that setting. Those big air filled tires are essentially your suspension/shocks so when you ditch the air and go foam filled the ride is really rough. Plus I've had a tractor mechanic tell me they are actually harder on the tractor axles for the same reason.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of tractor are you looking at? There is a new foam product that gives a more comfortable ride not quite the same as air but much closer to air without the bounciness and significantly cuts down on vibration wear compared to the older stuff. My cousin runs them on his JD 6125 and I'm planning to get them after I order a JD 5115M at the end of the year. My cousins place is in D'Hanis and mine is outside of Benavides.
