I'll be staying at the place right before San Luis Pass on the Galveston side. I've fished the bay side just north of the pass and the pass itself. Any other good spots in the immediate area ya'll can recommend for wade or pier fishing? Artificial lures/color recs? Last year when I went the bait shop was all out of live shrimp...hoping that's not the case this year. I only caught one fish last year, a nice sized trout on a white/yellow speck rig. Hoping to do better this year.

First of all, please don't wade San Luis Pass. Are you staying at Pointe West? If so, you can easily fish the bay and surf. On the bayside, wade in between the condos and houses off of Baywater. Purple soft plastics have been working well. Try between hip and chest deep water.

Gotcha. I don't wade the pass, I guess I should have specified it's the bay just north of the pass. The area along the bay near the condos is the area I'm talking about. Thanks for the advice!

There's a lot of fish inside the pass way around on the bay side (well away from the pass itself). Many guts and cuts. Also a **** ton of stingrays.

Yeah I just went and got some ray boots from Academy.....last year I wore my normal old tennis shoes but never really felt comfortable.

croakers under a popping cork. Also if you have a surf rig and want to hang out on the beach put a blue crab on the bottom as far as you can fling it, I got 2 monster hits Saturday not far from there but couldn't close the deal. Otherwise all I caught was a big hardhead on a dead mullet. So skip the dead mullet

If you do have surf equipment, catch some whiting with fishbites. Cut the whiting (mullet works too) in chunks and wade out and cast as far as you can. Lots of sharks this time of year.

Go to the carbodies, wade out to the 2nd cut when the tide is coming in/out and fish with live shrimp/croaker/piggy perch under a popping cork! Enuff Said, speckled trout limit! Walk back, sit in captain chair under the shade and pop a top on an ice cold Shiner Bock.

where are the 'carbodies'? fished in Surfside for the last 20 years and never heard of that place or location.

Found the answer on 2Cool:

"Old cars. They dumped them in lines along the sand bars and beach front. At one time was a great fish attractor and dune protector....then became a dadgum death trap as you would fall thru the roof and foot would get hung in the steering wheel to drown you. They have been long gone rusted away for the better part of two decades.....the oak island treasure hunters wouldn't even find anything there."

Looks like they were west of the pass on the Gulf beach side.

C ROC must be old.

The "car bodies" are/were between beach access five and the pass, closer to the pass. Limited out by 7:45 there the weekend before last on tops and a gold spoon.
