I'm staying halfway between Gulf Shores and Orange beach this week. Just got back from LuLu's. 3.5 hour wait to get a table, almost 2 hours more to finish dinner. It was an ordeal, not recommended.

This has to be the longest dining experience I've ever heard of!

If you have kids go to lamberts cafe. Near OB, food is good and they will wing rolls at you.

+1 for Cosmos
The pastry shop next to Cosmos has the best bread pudding I've ever eaten.
City Donut for breakfast or pie.
Louisiana Lagniappe is pretty good too.

ETA: avoid the carnival/theme park in Foley if you go to Lambert's. It's super expensive and dumb. My wife wanted to go and it was $40/head to ride county fair carnival rides.

If you have kids, go to The Hang Out for either lunch (young kids) or dinner (teenagers). They also have live music there most evenings.

Head over toward Perdido Key for slightly smaller crowds..... just a couple of miles.
Lilian's Pizza
Crab Trap
Flora Bama Ole River Grill- Bay side
Tacky Jacks
Brick and spoon
Couple of options at The Warf too on Canal Road.
Flora Bama is fun - even kid friendly during the day.
If where you are staying doesn't have direct beach access ( or if you are in a high rise and people are stacked deep on the beach) drive east to the state park in FL - couple miles of very small crowds.

Pick up a fishing charter at Zekes Marina. IN shore or off shore.

Take the Baldwin Beach Express from I10 to the Foley Beach Express- stay off HWY 59 from 10. Toll is 2.75

We always stayed at Needle Rush Point because it isn't a high rise and has fewer people spread over a huge beach area. ... also has bay side piers for fishing.

The Blue Angels perform/practice at the NAS in Pensacola, which is less than an hours drive away.

Sassy Bass towards Fort Morgan. Fishing had also been great in Fort Morgan and less knot heads!!

Agreed with Lillian's Pizza - it's fantastic.

The wait at Cosmos is usually too long, so we've never been there, but hear good things. We usually wind up at GT's by the Bay (it's also been a couple of other names over the years) and it's usually pretty good too. The kids enjoy the large aquarium.

Doc's Seafood Shack is a fantastic dive joint that we always make a lunch stop at.

Some fun non-beach activities:

-Definitely go to the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, and try to time it to see the Blue Angels practice if you can.

-Gulf State Park is pretty interesting.

-Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is a nice little zoo.

One of our favorites too. Used to be called Cayman Grill, I think.

Gulf State Park has miles of hike and bike trails (some are more like roads) and it's huge. We stayed for a week in an RV Park that had a connecting trail and rode our mountain bikes there good bit (every day for me). We did a Segway tour in the park and that was kinda cool.

Could not agree more with the recs for National Naval Air Museum and Blue Angels practice (all free, including parking - donations requested). Check the practice schedule here

Try fishing the Gulf State Pier, make sure you have bubble rigs (sold in local tackle shops, or by online ahead of time) for that and the surf. We did not and saw lots of fish caught with them when we were on the pier. Did not fish out towards Fort Morgan but have read that's where the big reds can be caught from the surf. We tried various spots in the OB / Gulf Shores area but didn't have much luck, although the winds were high and had the water all stirred up most of the time. Pompano fishing and sometimes blues is big on the beaches.

I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

Had a rod almost ripped out of my hand in the surf by a marauding torpedo shaped fish once in Pensacola. Maybe a kingfish way inshore due to conditions.
