Cleaning? I usually just wipe clean and roll. Will that work with pan fried trout?
rather be fishing

I use a stainless steel chainmail scrubber for anything that sticks. That and hot water and then towel off to dry it.

Should. Every now and then I have to deglaze with a cup of water after cooking to get some stuff off the surface after wiping the oil out.

If you used oil to cook the fish, just wipe it clean.

Better hope that trout isn't toxic.

Use hot soap and water just like any other pan, especially after cooking fish. Pancakes cooked in a cast iron pan that has a film of fishy oil in it is not so delicious. You're not going to do anything to the seasoning on the pan.

Soap and hot water, just like any other dish.

I agree with the soap but I'd recommend a milder soap (Ivory clear rather than Dawn, etc.) and do a seasoning afterward.

Modern polymer based soaps like Dawn, Palmolive, Ivory, etc. are not like the old fashioned high caustic lye soaps - they dont' strip seasoning. There is absolutely zero reason to not properly wash a cast iron skillet.

Soap only if necessary.

If it is just oily, I wash with a plastic scrubber sponge and the hottest water I can stand to have my hands in. If it has stuff stuck to it, I let it soak in hot water for 10-15 mins and then scrub with a chain mail scrubber. If the pan is properly seasoned and you didn't hard fry something to black crispiness in it, you should never need soap.

We clean cast iron with Kosher salt and water in my house.

If it isn't clean enough with a paper towel wipe down I usually fill the pan with very hot water & let soak till the water is cool enough for me to lightly scrub. When I say lightly scrub I mean dump the water out & the stuck on mess usually goes with the water. Then I wipe down with an oily paper towel.

I typically wash it after all the other dishes, with just a little soap left. As hot as I can get the water and a little soft scrubbing on places that need it. Then I dry it and wipe down with an oily towel.

Similar to above, when I finish all other dishes I use a little bit of soap and really hot water. Then I'll dry it, wipe it down with a little bit of oil, and put it back on the stove for a couple minutes.
