Anyone have current fishing reports for Bolivar? We are headed down there for a three day weekend at the end of the week and I would love to pull on a few specs. It looks like the wind may be blowing a bit much for the surf, but I will have to play that by ear. Are there any protected areas to wade on the bay side?

There is all of east bay, but getting access to it isn't easy.

You can wade back behind Rollover Pass. Be mucho careful. Lots of trout caught in that area, also lots of interesting folks around there.

Spending all of next week on Crystal Beach and East Bay. Report back and let us know how you do!

The Bolivar pocket is usually protected, has marginally better clarity, and is an easy wade.

The bay side will be too sweet. I recommend the surf if the wind permits it.

Surf is certainly easiest, it all depends on the wind though.

Are you wading along the pass? Fishing the gut where the current flows through? Or wading out in the bay to the NE or NW?

NW side.
I kayak fish, but have seen lots of folks park on the NW side and walk a ways. I have gotten out of the yak and waded a little there, but not extensively. You can kind of see where the deep part is, and the further you get from the road the cut is not as pronounced. Usual warnings, careful with dropoffs, wakes from the ICW, rays, a holes in boats with flat bill hats and salt life gear.

I think a group of us will be at PINS this weekend. Depending on the wind we may take Yarborough pass to fish the bay. We'be also talked about Matagorda as well.

Having a "meeting" tonight about what to do.

Does "too sweet" mean there is too much freshwater?

Yes sir the bay has very low salinity. Bay side will be good for channel cats and bass. You might think I am joking but I saw a Facebook post from TP&WD where they were catching small bass and bluegill in their survey nets in Aransas Bay.

Take a good light and a gig to look for flounder at night along Boliver pocket.

yeah, if the Bolivar forecast is at all similar to the POC forecast this weekend, surf is out. Looking at 20+mph winds out of the South/southeast down in POC this weekend, gusts pushing 30mph.

Well the wind blew all weekend, the surf was trashed. I had a few too many Mexican beers on the beach Saturday, so I didn't even mess with it Sunday morning. Yesterday morning we were hammered by storm the whole time. I didn't make a single cast...

We will be back down on the coast (Galveston/SLP area) July 4-7, hopefully the weather cooperates with us then.
