Jeeezzzuuuss, the Wranglers, not pre washed, Mom made us get back in the early 70's had a "break in period". If the $20 ones mentioned earlier in this thread are still available and the same type, that is the ticket if you are wanting "blue" jeans. Tough as nails, and long lasting. They were like $11 or so back then, if that much.

Mom would buy them long, to the point of having to fold them under to look like the fit when new. They were bought the couple of weeks before school started. As the year went on we'd grow into them, and by the end of the school year, they'd be borderline "high waders". Those would get cut off and would be our shorts during the summer. The fresh cut ones sucked, and we could not wait till they frayed some.

No, we were not a David Allen Coe Poor White Trash song either. It was looked upon as a waste if you did not use them up. We had at least one pair of nice shorts if need be. We hated those, though.

I know the 70's were a long time ago in some people's minds, but we were resourceful. We did not buy water containers for the fridge, or have a water dispenser in one. Mom washed out a tall, green, prune juice jar (some people drank that...ugh) and that was our cold water container out of the fridge. Don't know why, but to this day, that was some of the coldest, best drinking water I have ever had on a hot day.

Sorry to derail, if I did. Maybe we ought to start a thread from the olds that tell the youngs how things from our lives used to be, without getting condescending. Just some little tips and such that might save some money and make for some neat family stuff.

Canvas is the answer. Carhart, duluth, ll bean, filson, etc all have fancy names for their canvas, but its is still canvas and is tougher than denim.

Sarge same here. I have bought and worn Levi's for 45-50 years and that was the standard. I do not do outside work so other jeans maybe better but I have been in fields hunting and lease work with no problems. I have some that are going on 20 years, granted they are reserved for the house and lease.

As for corporation social policy buying decisions I guess I could create a spreadsheet for the companies banned from OB.....

Nah. I'll buy what I want for the price and value I see. Never had a problem with Levi's. Buying a pair every 2-3 years won't matter to them.

There are several thicker denim Wrangler jeans
the 13MWZGK Gold Buckle jeans are the same fit and cut as the Original 13MWZ Jeans but made with thicker denim.

Also, I have been wearing the Wrangler 47MAC Premium performance Advanced Comfort Jeans and they have held up very well to ranch work and other labor intensive work.

I wear Wrangler 20X when I can pull off jeans at the office but for work I wear DuluthFlex Firehose 80% of the time and DuluthFlex Ballroom jeans the other 20%, they are just far more durable and comfortable to work in than anything else I've tried. Levi's are just terrible, I never had a pair last over a year of what I don't even consider hard wear, I got away from them 10 years ago and haven't looked back

FWIW.

I did a thread on the old days and what we did back then for jeans and other stuff, to make things last, etc.

Keep this thread going for the OP.

Just a comment about Wrangler 47MWZ.... it does not mean 47 weight. It is an updated shape (looser waist and other areas) to the 13MWZ. Their website says that men have enjoyed Wranger jeans since 1947, hence the name of this particular model.

I like the duluth firehose five pockets. They are cut more like jeans. I have the regular and flex. The flex are more comfortable, but the regular are thicker and more durable.

I like the Dickie's Original 874 work pants. Great combination of toughness and lightweight so they're cool. Also, pretty cheap compared to some of the other options.

Wrangler 20X. They are heavy denim, and I have put them through tons of work in the field.

They are a little baggy, so I do not wear them to places that I need to dress nicer.
You can't fix stupid.

RoundHouse is not a bad choice believe it or not.
I didn't want the label on the butt pocket so a easy sweep of a knife and done.
