In the process of getting a new deer blind for this year. I've hunted out of several redneck blinds and i like them a lot. curious if there are other quality and economic options yall are using?

Thanks for any info

edit - also looking for good options to use for bow hunting as well. trying to find an all-in-one package.

I sit in an open tripod. Clear open view to the feeder about 70 yds away.

So I can't give you much advise.

For bowhunting I use tripods. Nothing specific, but my favorite is a heavy duty 12' (ground to platform) with an adjustable rail. Easy to take down and move if I need to and sturdy enough to hold me, my bow, a gun and a cooler. The most important factor for me is a big platform. I don't like small platforms because you can run out of space setting things under you pretty fast and when you need to turn, you wind up knocking something down to the ground.

For box blinds, I really like the fiberglass 4'x6' (no specific brand) blinds with a 10'-12' stand and carpeted interior. They are really nice, last for years and quiet. You have to be sure they are weatherproofed good around the door and windows though and sealed up good. They can be a little harder to set up since they are heavy, but are worth it to me if you plan on leaving them in one spot for an extended period of time.

We have a bunch of fiberglass Dillon blinds. 4x4 and 4x6. All elevated. Work well and seal up between seasons relatively well. Never used them all that much growing up. Or we used a few cheapies made from plywood and rested on the ground until they rotted out.

These days, I like the blind because I can talk to my kids about what we're doing. Watching movement patterns. Just spending time together. Walking them through the shot. Where to aim. Judging age. That kind of stuff.
Nobody cares. Work Harder

Rifle. Pretty basic. Made of square tubing. About 12 feet in the air. Single chair.

I built mine, 6x6. Roomy, comfortable. Deerview windows. Need to swing by TSC and pick up a horse mat for the floor and personalize the inside. Given the option, I'm taking room and comfort all day these days. My blind from last season looks like something a drunken monkey smoking meth would put together. It worked, but man - it sucked.

Tree stands 100%. Haven't sat in a blind in over a decade.

I'm on the lookout on craigslist for something like this

to make something like this

All you got to do is cut the holes where you want and throw it on a platform.

We have a dealer in Giddings downtown on Hwy 290 that sells tons of big poly tanks like this and they are advertising some as deer stands. Not sure how much they cost, but they have lots of them there.

I was in the market for a new blind a couple of years ago. Decided on a 5' x 7' from Texas Wildlife Supply. We have several fiberglass blinds ( Dillions and Texas Deer Stands) on our place which are good blinds. Hunted them many times and enjoyed them. We did have several problems with them over the years however.

I really like my TWS a lot better. It is insulated, quieter, heavier and the stand is much stouter. The extra weight and the stout stand really cut down on the blind moving around in the wind.

Seriously though, We build heavy wooden ground blinds on 4x4 sleds. Wooden panel walls. Any roof material works as long as it doesn't let light through. Heavy carpeted floor. Paint interior black. Small horizontal slats for bow hunting. Drill holes in window slat bases and place that bendy wire Christmas tree garland stuff in the holes to break up the target animal sight line. Can bend the garland to your liking for shooting holes. Works like you would not believe.

Always take a set of extra clothes with you when you work out there and throw your sweaty clothes in the blind before you go home and wear the fresh clothes home. desensitizes the critters to your smell.

Any pics of this, and of the garland in place? I'm trying to visualize how this works for bow hunting.

Unless you meant "vertical" slats.

No pics. Its at ground level.

Think of a 10x6 ft kids wooden playhouse size structure. 10 ft face facing the target. Two horizontal slats cut into the wood panel facing the target. Slats/windows are roughly 12" tall 33" wide. Hunt in sitting position. Two slats facing target across the front. You can have two people in blind. No other windows. Slat/ window bases have 2x4 screwed in along the bottom of the window. 4" face of 2x4 flat to the wood wall panel. Drill holes in the 2" top of the 2x4 all the way across the window. Put garland pieces in the holes so the garland pokes up reaching most of the way up the window. Nice rotating comfortable chairs. Most everybody i hunt with uses longbows so its 12 yards from the feeder. Dont really rifle hunt deer anymore. Wear all black with black face mask.
Its almost Unhuntable in october due to the heat. But pays huge dividends when it cools off. I Haven't hunted an evening in archery season in 10 years. Did away with tripods and tent blinds. It takes a lot to build it but once you have it you have it. The 4x4 sled flooring allows you to winch it up on the trailer. Then tie a rope to it and a tree and drive out from underneath it at hunting location.

Other blinds are elevated at 12 yards. Dark blinds, open front, bench seating at the back. Same concept as the ground blind but more open to front. Metal pipe frame. On sleds. Tied down with cables. Something you might see in Africa.

For those interested in a tank blind build, this one may still be available in San Antonio. 7' 8" wide by 6' 4" tall. Don't know what it's worth. Was used to store well water but It had a small crack on the bottom so I had to replace it. If interested you can throw out a price while I try and see what it's worth.
