Have never made the trip down, but for years have heard stories of monster trout. Any recommendations?

Book a winter trip if you want your best shot at a monster.

If you're booking your trip out far enough you HAVE to fish w/ Chad Peterek. He is THE premier big trout guide in Baffin IMO. Every PR trout I've caught has been w/ him.

I'd call garold Carson

Been fishing Baffin for 30 years. Doesn't hunt ducks, deer or fish anywhere else. Just Baffin for 30 years fishing 225 days a year.

He's very, very good, and polite. He books up far in advance...

Fished with him several times and a couple in nasty weather. He puts you on fish.

For sure have to go winter time if you want to increase your chances of big trout. In winter I went with Kevin Cochran and he really knows the area well.

From Baffin Bay Rod and Guns website as far as best time to catch a trophy.

We had a pretty sub-par trip back in January but the weather was really nasty. I don't remember the guides name, but I'd probably book elsewhere.

He did grow up in Riviera texas and fished Baffin all his life. He said his favorite time to catch a monster trout is April

It all depends. Winter can be easier to pattern them as they'll hold up to warmer spots with muddy bottoms. They also hit larger baits so corky's and such produce big hits. You'll grind it out all day for a few bites but they will be big ones if you're doing it right!

April is when the trout get a bit more active and hit topwaters. It's a fun time as well !

We used corkies also. He showed us how to fish them slow and then said slow it down even more. Spent time with us to really get us opportunities. Amazing that some of the bigger fish would take the lure so softly.

Britt or Connor Reynolds or Craig West if you can get him.

This thread is relevant to my interests as well, good info.

I've only fished Baffin and points south once and it was with Craig West in 2012. He was great & I'd use him again if he was available.

We had purchased a two day fishing trip on Baffin at a charity auction with him as the guide. There were three of us and we caught a limit of trout the first day. At the end of the first day, Craig said he wanted to take us further south where he thought there would be some bigger trout. He picked us up about 3:30 or a little after and we went to Port Mansfield to fish for the successful second day.

That was some extra effort that we didn't expect and were greatly appreciative of. He was also quite entertaining.

I would second Gerald Carson, great guy and will find the fish. I've fishing with him probably 10 times over the years and always seem to end up with a box full of fish. I've heard the stories and follow the pictures on fb of chad peterek and I will second that if you are looking to get your personal best with artificial lures, and willing to wade Chad is your guy, but he stays booked out several months. Just my two cents here

Hubba and Connor Reynolds are good people too. Grew up in the area do well in all the local tourneys. Will run to Baffin or south to Mansfield sometimes !

I am considering taking my 16 year old son fishing at Baffin Bay Rod and Gun. Has anyone done this and what was your experience?

I've done it several times. It's good. Rooms are nice and good food. Guides I've used out of there have been fine. I've heard that the fishing is bouncing back from the freeze. I had a buddy fish there in November (not through the lodge) and they caught a bunch of trout. The nice thing about Baffin is that it is remote with the King ranch on one side and the Kennedy ranch on the other. It's my favorite bay to fish.
