How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hi All,

I hope this is the right forum. My kids wants a mini golden doodle. What is the best way to find breeders in the Texas Area? I am willing to drive to any of the big Texas cities to pick the dog up but the only decent breeders I could find are in other states.

Is it worth looking at Craigslist - I am weary of scams?

Any other sites that would be worthwhile to look at?

sounds like a scam to me. I'd be wary of any kid who wants a specific mutt.

We've got two medium goldendoodles from Safari Doodles (https://www.safaridoodles.com/). You're going to pay more there than anywhere else but for the quality of breeding and level of professionalism, it was absolutely worth it to us. They bread mini doodles all the way up to standard, as well as labradoodles and bordoodles.

When our vet found out our pups came from Safari, he told us he has yet to see a better breeder in his 25 years and said we won't have to worry about any kind of health issues.

Clearly I'm a little biased...

I'd take a hard look at miniature or smaller sized standard poodle. The breed has been around for 600+ years in europe. Non shedding. Highly intelligent and trainable. Good prey drive. Good with old people and kids.

Downside is that they are really smart dogs. First year and a half or so requires a good amount of attention based on energy level. After 2 y/o they mellow out. Got to be shaved down regularly.

In either case, look for a breeder that has done some form of genetics analysis. Its pretty common now for breeders to import male dogs from Europe to US / Canada to diversify the gene-pool. The poodle is a good all around dog by itself. I've never really understood the basis for for the cross breeding with labs and other breeds.
Seems like the price point for a cross bred dog is approaching the same price as a pure bred dog.

Goldens, Labs and Poodles are all great dogs in and of themselves, but I'm not sure that genetics work like people think when it comes to the cross breeding.

Thanks all. I will look into the recommendations. We really want a smaller dog that doesn't shed/hypoallergenic.

The F1Bs are the most likely to be hypoallergenic and non shedding. We have a 5 month old F1B sheepadoodle and she's great.

I'm sure you know this but F1B means a doodle has been bred back to a pure poodle basically making it 3/4 poodle.

His old is Penny? This is BB (Barbara Bush because she was born the day of 41s funeral and yes she has a pearl collar). She's a 5 month old sheepadoodle.

Beautiful dog. How do y'all keep yours clean? Mine loves to get dirty, and baths are a 45 minute ordeal to get all the dirt out of her fur.

Lots of brushing and baby wipes between baths.

We have a solid black Golden Doodle, we picked up here in Va. She is about 42 pounds of pure energy. In terms of training, she has been quite a bit more challenging than our Border Collie and Sheltie (high ball drive equals anything for the ball). However, she makes up for it in her personality. She is so laid back, she doesn't have a care in the world. She and my Sheltie are inseparable, and she gets along with out 14 year Border Collie.

We have had some Uninary issues (a dozen UTI's at least) in which she is on Prion and Cranberry pill every day, along with Science Diet CD for her re-occuring UTI's.

Out of our three, the Border Collie, and the Sheltie she has been the most expensive dog we've ever purchased at about a grand. Now I would say she is more in the 3K range with as much as we have spent in Vet Bills, plus several chewed up baseboards and sheetrock.

If someone were to ask, would we get another Golden Doodle I would certainly say absolutely. Her personality, and her happy go lucky attitude makes her a treat.
