A little over a month ago we went on vacation out in California. Cruised down the coast. It was a really good trip. Been going through the pictures and this one popped out at me. It turned out really good for my ability. Thought I would share it.

Beautiful enough that my wife and I go every year in Feb, using the AT&T Pebble Beach tournament as a good excuse.

That pic was taken south of Monterrey looking up to what they call Hurricane Point. Will definitely share more pics as I come across ones I think are worth sharing.

i keep having to go to CA for work, and i never realized how beautiful it was. i grew up thinking the entire state was like SF and LA. the more i explore, i more i enjoy going there. Too bad the taxes suck ass and their gun policies suck ass, parts of it id consider living in

Monterey and SF are really Central CA. Northern is more like Redding and Eureka.

Too bad the left ruined the state.

This was one of my favorites from the San Diego Zoo. That was a great zoo. I felt like I was in a huge Fort Worth Zoo as far as quality of displays. I really liked it

This one was fun to try and get. We were sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge at 5 in the morning. Really glad I got one this good to come out. I was sure all of them were going to be terrible

Very true!! LA was terrible in my opinion. San Fran was ok but in town I did not like. I am not sure what I was expecting but it did not meet what I thought it would be. But the parts outside of the bigger cities was great!

Evidently we were in the southern most portion of the redwoods' natural range. I was hoping to see the HUGE trees that they put tunnels through but these were awesome too!

The wife an I are going to Monterrey next week. We want to hit up Big Sur, but she's 4 months pregnant so no long hikes. Probably 60-90 minutes max. Any recs?

If you're going south out of Monterrey on Hwy 1 there are plenty of places to pull over and take it in. We were on a tour that stopped at Big Sur Lodge. Wish we would have had more time there. They had some decent short trails through the woods that were an easy walk.

Drove it twice a long time apart.

It was pretty, but seemed very devoid of much to actually DO unless you like wetsuits and cold ass beaches that are often extremely difficult to reach.

And the people we met were dull as wet moss on the backside of a rock.

A hidden gem ( at least my wife and I think so) is Cambria Pines Lodge at the southern end of the Big Sur coast. The Lodge grounds are peaceful with several walking trails, and the little town of Cambria is a short walk. Excellent restaurant on site as well as good food in town. Paso Robles wine country is easily accessible as is Hearst castle, which is interesting just to see once.

Point Lobos State park is amazing. If you're going soon, the calving season for the seals is going on.

With luck, you'll see them nursing on the beach which is cool.
With even more luck, you'll see a great white or killer whale attack said seal, which is even more cool.

Be sure to video & post it here on the OB.

The best beach dives I've ever done. I think I still have my dive notes and hand drawn maps of the site. I always used a 7mm wetsuit, but that was 20 yrs ago and that water is COLD! I'd definitely go drysuit now. If you're a diver, I highly recommend reserving a slot. They only allow a limited number of divers/day.

I could just sit for hours and look at the Pacific. Because of the rocks it gets so deep so quick and the water just looks like it is going to slosh out. It is one of the most relaxing scenes I have ever enjoyed.

Wife and I did it 25+ years ago. Really liked the Hearst Castle. Agree that the views are spectacular and the beaches are pretty remote. Was able to get to one area, Jade Cove Beach and collected 8-10 small pieces on the beach while dodging the incoming waves.
