Headed to the airport now to start a couple long days of travel prior to hunting for 6 days on Kamchatka Peninsula. Going with a buddy and really looking forward to this trip! Temps should be around 30 to mid 40s. Will try to keep this thread rolling with some pics.

The hunters from last years trip with this same outfitter......

Wow, Russia is huge. Why not fly Alaska to the peninsula? Best of luck!

Noticed this as well. I thought Russians were good at math and stuff.

Can't wait for the rest of the bear stuff.

Unfortunately, you can't fly that way this time of the year. Guess it has to do with winter and runways or something. It would be significantly shorter and I asked the same question myself. We will get to spend a couple nights in Moscow, so that will be an added bonus.

Wolverines. Hope to tag one of those and there is opportunity for wolf as well. I think the wolves are pretty rare, but may have a decent shot at seeing a a wolverine. Not real sure. We will see how my luck works out. Bear is obviously the primary focus.

Was going to ask the same question. Seemed like the long way around. Looks like an incredible trip. Wish I were 30 years younger to take such a trip.

Amazing to think the NY to Moscow flight will probably be the shorter (or least equal) flight time.

Probably has to do with international travel and customs.

OP, you happen to be going with anyone from Kerr County? A guy I know just told me Thursday he's heading there to hunt brown bear.

2011 moose/caribou hunt in BC with Stan Lancaster at Kawdy Outfitters. I absolutely love BC. It's beautiful scenery.

OP some questions if you don't mine.

How much do these bears weigh? I know this pics are staged for maximum size but dang that is a lot of bear.

How do you hunt them? Stalk, dogs, bait etc

Is the meat any good? Will you being any home?

Thanks

Super jealous. I will just keep thinking about how much the travel sucks to justify me sitting here in Houston while you're out living the dream.

Will be back killing their cousins in Ontario in Sept.

Bears will typically be in the 8.5' to 10' range. We are obviously shooting for the higher end of that. Weight will be around 1,000 lbs give or take a few hundred, depending on where they fall in that range. Will be snowmobiling around for them, as they are coming out of their dens. Spot and potentially stalk type of hunt.

Moscow is a great city. Some really cool buildings and some great venues (restaurants, bars, patios) . Few pics from today are below. We have another 8.5 hour flight tomorrow

Story?
Own land and facilities they wanted use of during filming. They were throwing lots of money around. Simple contract and they accepted all liability. Have been approached by many filming companies in more recent times - I have been turning these down as the money isn't that great and their contracts are now as thick as a book. I don't need the money to put up with bs. But, the Red Dawn crews were ultra professional and paid extremely well.

Oh, and while not a friend (just courteous contact), stayed in contact with Patrick Swayze up until his death as he bought land out in that area after making that movie. He went through a period of massive drinking which was sad to see. In real life, he was a very nice person.

Well that didn't take long at all!! Congrats.

I know 2 people that have killed bears there. They said it was day after long day of riding on a sled behind a snowmobile as the guide looked for tracks and they were miserably cold. One guy is an outfitter from Cody, WY and if he says something is cold, I believe him. If they found tracks they would follow them on foot to see if it was a shooter bear.
