Country singer Justin Carter dies after he's shot with a gun being used as a music video prop

Holy Crap. Details are few right now.

Quote:

Singer Justin Carter has died in an accidental shooting. The rising country music star was killed by a gun that was being used as a music video prop, according to Houston's ABC 11. Carter's death was confirmed on his Instagram page.
...
Atherton said a gun that was going to be used for the music video shoot was the same one that ultimately killed Carter at his apartment. Other details are unknown at this time.
Wonder if it was something like Jon-Erik Hexum's death

Puzzling that a "prop gun" for a music video killed him in his own apartment. Sounds more like a real gun and this was either a ND situation or a suicide. Curious to see more details about how this happened.

When I first read it I missed the part about it happening at his apartment. I thought it was during the shoot, Brandon Lee style.

If he shot himself at his apartment, that's the point in my mind where a gun is no longer a prop and just considered a gun.

Not sure why it's being characterized as a prop gun.

Something happened, probably bad reporting.

This video was posted on the GB thread about this. I have some thoughts, but since the guy is dead, I'll keep them to myself...

Ok... I did say on the GB thread that "Florida Georgia Line thinks that song sucks".

Makes me appreciate the guys like Cody Jinks, Jamey Johnson and the handful of others still holding country music together, that's all I'll say.

any more details on this? I'm still trying to figure out how he got hit in the eye if the gun was in his pocket...
"Cal (9-3) vs. Texas A&M (9-3). On the list of rare sights in Southern California, a team running the option -- as the Aggies like to do with QB Stephen McGee -- ranks right up there with real breasts and 12 inches of snow." Stewart Mandel CNNSI

The gun did not kill Carter.

Rising "country" singer huh....

Any bets if the prop gun made it into a music video it would have been cocked to the side...

Guess I'm getting old but serious question, is that what country music is today? Do people actually listen to this and/or pay for this? Is this really considered country? Who thought this song was a good idea? I feel like I need answers.

Thoughts and prayers, and all the right things to say and all.

Also, I listened to that song, and wanted to shoot myself in the eye.

No, no it's not. Below is a somewhat actual country/western song.

I was generally taught that one of the first rules of gun safety was "treat every gun as if it were loaded". To me it seems simple, direct and quite effective. This entire sad story (if it actually occurred as reported) could have been avoided had someone been paying attention & followed just the basic rules of gun safety.

I didn't want to oversell it. Faded Love is my personall favorite song of all time followed closely by Maiden's Prayer, true story.

Most of these folks now that are passing as "country" artists are not worthy to carry the fiddle case of Bob Wills or Johnny Gimble or Ray Price's guitar case.

Seriously, gun safety shouldn't be difficult. Follow the general flipping rules of firearm safety and use some common ****ing sense.

Not that it's remotely similar, but this story did remind me of Brandon Lee's death 25 years ago. In that case, they were using a 44 Magnum revolver, and to get realistic film from the front of the gun that reveals a bullet, crews will use a dummy round with ith no powder or primer. But the jackwagons on that crew decided to make their own dummy rounds by removing the bullet and dumping the powder; however, the problem was that they left the primer, which during filming, one dislodged a bullet into the barrel with no one noticing, basically a squib round. Then in a later scene when blanks were used with the gun pointed at Lee, the blank essentially fired the dislodged bullet at Lee and killed him.

Let's build to cleanse out this thread.

Neck tattoos? With a hat to make it 'country'? RIP

This genre has def been compromised lately by folks like this (again RIP).

Cleansing is in order.

I saw an article a few days ago about this and his "manager" stated he was going to be the next Garth Brooks.

At the risk of being insensitive, it appears that a guy without enough sense to know that this music sucks also lacked enough sense to avoid dying by himself at home alone with a gun.
