Advice on a cat snake bite? He's a 20lb fatty. Came to the door with limp, and has what appears to be two fang marks in an open wound on right leg. Leg is swollen on back side of area.

I read to give him approx 20 mg benadryl. Any other advice?

You can do the antivenom thing but it's expensive. However, even if you don't want to your vet could give him/her pain meds and antibiotics.

Lost our dog to a rattler nite in September.

February seems like a little strange time of year for a Snake bite. Hopes he's ok

I'd at least call the vet. My 65 lb dog almost died from his first copperhead bite, but it was also on his nose. He went on to get bitten 12 times in his life, but only that first one was a real scare.

Well...taking the fatty to the vet. If I didn't have kids, he would have to suck it up tonight on his own. Couldn't get him to take any Benadryl...wont even drink milk.

To each their own, but people will give you like a lot of new cats for free and they aren't really emotionally attached to you.

Antivenom for a cat is really really not worth it. Cats just allow you to hang out with them as long as they are satisfied with how much you feed them.

Aggie '03 vet fixed him up, atibiotics. Something probably bit him yesterday or this AM, leg was infected bad. Prob not a snake bite but could have been.

He's lucky, he had a max $ cap on his head, expensive antivenim was already ruled out by the finance committee.

If a day gets really warm a copperhead may come out briefly in the daytime even this early.

Depends on the cat to be honest. I've got one ranch cat I would spend a lot of money on. The others would have a cap. Glad your cat is doing alright

Most likely another cat bite. We see cat fight abcesses frequently, generally some antibiotics and cleaning up the wound fixes it up. Glad you got it fixed up.
