Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but upon what foundation did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force! But Jesus Christ founded His upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him. - Napoleon Bonaparte

Thank you for posting this. I don't have anyone left from this generation that unknown but I'm so grateful for their sacrifice. I intend to send this great man a card.

My WWII Grandfather's birthday is May 18th. He will be 97 years old if he lives till there. He will also be a 72 year Mason.

I hope he loves that long as my son is due in May. (There's currently no indication that he won't)

The local Texoma News did a heart warming story on him tonight as they interviewed his daughter, Sharon Cartwright, for details about the birthday card request.

It's very evident he and his family are big Oklahoma State fans and according to his daughter, he loves getting any kind of mail. The 92 YO is obsessed with checking the mail. He sits in his chair by the window each day watching for the mail delivery so he can go get the mail, unfortunately he doesn't receive much...it's mostly for his daughter and her family.

His family therefore decided they would try a heart warming effort to start his birthday celebration early so he can get enjoyment from one of his favorite things. What's exciting is when he actually gets something in the mail, she says he'll sit there and hold it...sometimes he won't open it for an hour or two. Other times, he carries a knife in his pocket all the time and he rips that knife out and just rips the envelope open to see what he has received.

She says he hasn't always enjoyed getting the mail like he does nowadays...says if he gets something in the mail tou're just excited because she says at that age he doesn't get bills anymore so it's always just something exciting for him!

He's currently undergoing cancer treatment and his family just wants to make him happy, which is why they're trying to get many birthday cards sent to him...she says it makes her happy that he has something cause anything that's an enjoyment to him is also an enjoyment to her.

Dang, I think someone was cutting onions tonight while I was watching the news...
