Costco's in the Austin area currently have Wagyu Brisket Packers for $4.99/lb. Plenty at the William Cannon location, running low at others. Gonna smoke one for the game Sunday!

Check your local locations.. might just be a Super Bowl weekend offering. I have not seen these ever before at any shop other than pricey butcher shops.

Costco will sell these before the 4th of July and the Super Bowl.

Last year, our Costco sold out in 2 hours.

Have smoked one recently ... not enough discernable difference in the final product to justify increase in price over their $2.79 prime packers. It was still tasty, just not enough to justify the cost.

This.

Don't have Costco nearby, but HEB prime for $2.99 has been just as good or better as the one wagyu I smoked.

Got a 15# this morning. Have smoked wagyu from the butcher and it was outstanding, first time to try one from Costco. Curious to see if it's worth it as their prime is always very good.

Blind taste test at Camp Brisket had Wagyu just BARELY over prime. Not enough to justify 2-3x the price.

Checking back in in regard to my OP.

Well worth the investment!! Haven't stood in line for Franklins but if it's better than what I just pulled off the smoker then his is damn righteous. This was the best brisket cook I've ever done and would put it up against any bbq joint. Just saying !

Costco prime is unstoppable for the price. I can't imagine wagyu being any better.

I've cooked plenty of prime and choice briskets. Very few people notice the difference if there is much of one. I will buy choice any day over prime for $1.95/lb. I will not under any circumstances cook a select packet though. Select to choice is a huge difference.

Concur on the select issue. I won't even bother with select beef on anything. Hadn't bought select in many many years but found ourselves in the middle of nowhere a while ago and the one and only store only carried select. They weren't expensive but bought T-bones and cooked medium rare thinking can't be that bad - ha! even the tenderloin part was like chewing on leather. Can't imagine how bad a select brisket would be.

Never find prime brisket at my HEB for this low either. I am in there about once a week and constantly checking, as COSTCO is more of a haul.
