I don't know about the reel but a while back, field and stream had those rods alone on sale for around 50 if my memory serves me correctly.
It's a good deal if they have the rod weight/size you want.

I have about 6 of those as spares for people that dont being gear when they fish. Spray them off good after each trip and oil as needed. They are good to go.
If you're lucky you'll find the Lews Mach II reel on clearance for $70.

I just picked up the Abu Garcia Pro Max Combo for $100. They're everywhere right now. Did I waist $15?
Saw a bunch of the original posted combo at the city view store in Fort Worth. Also had a few other higher end (just going in price) bait cast combos on clearance.

Ha! Just saw that here in Lubbock a couple of days ago and was wondering the same thing. Want a new bait cast rod and reel. Thought about Abu Garcia Black Max. This one better?

I am a coastal spincast guy, for the last 30 years, but if my local Academy has this deal, will get in on it.

Just picked one up for $79 in Lubbock. Went to the store on the south side of town, and it was $149. Some old dude told me they were on clearance at the 19th Street store. He was right.
Got one Friday and tried it out on Fayette. Not much experience with baitcasters and suck at casting them. This one was the easiest I have ever had - not a single rat trap. Was using light weight lures and it could sling it a mile. I think it was a great $79 purchase!!!
As mentioned above, lots of left handed versions, almost bought the wrong one....

I'm a righty and use a LH baitcaster. Never thought it made sense to hold the rod in your right hand to cast and then have to switch it over to your left hand afterwards.FirefightAg said:
