Ive traded deleted diesels in the past and havent had a problem ( i even bought my current truck already deleted from a ford dealer), but i recently had a dealer tell me he couldnt take a deleted truck in on trade.

Anyone else ever run into this?

It's against the law to alter the original emissions system of a vehicle that is registered to be operated on a public road. It's also against the law to sell a vehicle with an altered emissions system.

Not surprising that an honest dealer wouldn't want to deal with the hassle and expense of making the truck legal for them to sell again.

I did. Took it to Carmax and got a better offer and they didn't care that it was deleted.

I just keep all my pipes sitting in the yard and when I trade it in I just take them with me. They are more concerned about the bump gate dints than the exhaust... found a little system where I get a free truck wash any time I talk to them about a trade because they have to clean it to find all the dints under the mud.

I wish I had my old pipes, that would be handy right now for sure. Any tips on where i could pick some up by chance?

For the record I've always been up front with dealers when trading my trucks; i tell the dealer what ive modified. This is the first time ive ever had a dealer make a big deal out of it.

Im guessing maybe the enforcement on this from the govt has gotten tighter??

There are exceptions to this, such as if you cannot reasonably procure factory replacement parts and use functionally equivalent parts, if you improve the emissions system with superior replacement design and can verify that, or if it is 25+ years old, at least in states not ending in "alifornia".

I too have a deleted F250. My hp went from 440, to 640. My gas mileage went from 12, to almost 13.

I too have a deleted F250. My hp went from 440, to 640. My gas mileage went from 12, to almost 13.


Nice, I've never checked the gas mileage running a hot tune, that's actually better than I would have guessed

So I checked with three other dealers & none had an issue with it (like i said earlier im up front with them about my modifications).

I ended up trading with one Friday afternoon.

Already got the new ride pinstriped & bloodied at the dear lease.
